The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Accounting Manager supervises two Accounts Payable employees and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and yearend audit preparation. This position reports to the Controller.

Main Responsibilities

Manage the Accounts Payable function
- Responsible for recruiting, coaching, training and development of A/P Staff
- Communicate job expectations, appraising and reviewing job contributions
- Enforce AP policies and procedures and manage risk to ensure company’s assets are safeguarded by proper internal control procedures
- Approval of GL coding on AP invoices and ensure that proper approval has been received
- Review bi-weekly cheque runs and prepare cash requirements
- Work with a multi-branch structure ensuring the timely processing of vendor invoices
- Oversee the company’s vendor relationships ensuring prompt payment, rebates if applicable
- Working with Purchasing in a head office environment ensuring the processing of POs through the ERP system
- Advises employees regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
- Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Act as an internal liaison to resolve problems with other branches/departments
- Manage our corporate Visa program; setting up new cardholders, posting approved expenses and accruing transactions at month end

Financial
- Assist in the preparation and review of monthly financial statements
- Monthly journal entries (bank reconciliations, accruals, adjusting entries etc.)
- Prepare Fixed Asset continuity schedules
- Maintain general ledger accounts - both balance sheet and income statement
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
- Preparation of year-end schedules
- Participate in annual physical inventory count
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and yearend close
- Monthly government reporting - filing PST, HST and corporate tax instalments
- Responds to inquiries from managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like
- Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department

Administration
- Oversee administration of maintaining fleet documentation; vehicle lists, drivers lists, and registration renewals
- Company liaison for vehicle insurance and other claims
- Request driver’s abstracts and ensure vehicles are added/removed to the policy as necessary
- Participate in preparing the documentation for the annual insurance renewal

Job Requirements
- Post-Secondary education in Business with an emphasis in Accounting
- CPA designation and/or working towards an asset
- Minimum of 5 years accounting experience within a corporate environment
- Supervisory experience an asset
- Understanding and knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
- Working knowledge of ERP system
- Familiar with BI and external reporting structure
- Strong experience with Microsoft Office
- Understanding of multi-platform integration
- Possess strong analytical and organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required
