Library Services Assistant

Port Hope, Canada Port Hope Public Library Full time

Port Hope Public Library requires a part-time Library Services Assistant to work as a member of the customer service team. This position performs information, circulation and customer service functions including answering information questions, providing reader’s advisory, checking in/out library materials, developing, and maintaining collections, overseeing membership processes and participating in the delivery of programming and community outreach initiatives.

**Education, Skills, and Experience**

1. High school diploma with two years related experience in a public library or customer service oriented environment

2. Post-secondary diploma (Library Technician, EXCEL) would be an asset but not required

4. Excellent oral and written, communication skills

5. Effective interpersonal and customer service skills including conflict resolution, teamwork, professional work ethic and a demonstrated commitment to excellence

6. Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives following approved policies and establish procedures without supervision

7. Successful employment history in a library using Symphony Workflows preferred

8. Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

9. Vulnerable sector criminal record check required upon start

Schedule will be variable and may include day, evening, and weekend shifts; work sites will include both the Mary J. Benson Branch and The Hub at Canton.
- Must be available to work 2 evening shifts per week and 2 weekends per month
- Must be available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week

Compensation as per the Collective Agreement between the Port Hope Public Library Board and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 749-01.

Pay Range: $22.19 to $26.51 (currently under review)

Benefits: Voluntary membership in OMERS Primary Pension Plan; eligibility criteria as determined by OMERS, selective benefits/allowances as per the CUPE collective agreement.

- Customer service: 2 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

- Class G Licence (required)
