**Métis Justice Supports & Services Navigator**

**Location**: Métis Nation of Alberta Youth Programming Centre, Edmonton, AB.

**Position Status**: Full-time (40 hours/week), Permanent.

**The Opportunity**

Reporting to the Director of Justice, the Métis Justice Supports & Services Navigator (MJSSN) is committed to providing access to information, awareness and support for Métis Albertans navigating the Criminal Justice System through a culturally appropriate and responsive lens. This role is primarily responsible for both in-house and field-based support and resource navigation for Métis Albertans. The MJSSN is also responsible for assisting with the administration of internal programming within the MNA’s Justice Department.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Serve as a primary point of contact for Métis Albertans seeking resource and navigation supports relating to the Criminal Justice System (CJS).
- Develop and maintain a catalogue of resources for referral, including but not limited to MNA specific programs and services and other provincial and community-based programs.
- Connect with internal and external supports, services, and resources to build and maintain an up-to-date province wide resource database of community based, culturally safe programming and resources for Métis Albertans.
- Responsible to know and refer to programming offered by all departments of the MNA and affiliates.
- Track use of and barriers to accessing internal programs and services, maintaining documentation of all encounters, and completing reporting requirements according to organizational standards.
- Assist Métis Albertans with scribing and maintain rapport with them.
- Advocate for Métis Albertans in a formal capacity where required.
- Attend and represent the MNA at professional conferences, in-service trainings, and meetings.
- Complete briefing notes, memos, and reports as requested.
- Perform other duties as required.

**Skills & Competencies**
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.
- Knowledge of the justice issues impacting Indigenous peoples.
- Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System.
- Ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.
- Ability to build collaborative, positive relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including clients, service providers, and community.
- Ability to be empathetic and non-judgmental when assisting Métis Albertans.
- Culturally sensitive, compassionate, and trustworthy.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to be flexible and allocate time and resources effectively.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
- Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems.
- Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
- Proficient computer skills and the ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams).

**Qualifications**
- Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in a related field such as social work or criminal justice.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant and related experience.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in planning and needs assessment is an asset.
- Experience working in the justice field is an asset.
- Experience working in remote Indigenous and northern communities is an asset.
- Indigenous Awareness training is an asset.
- Training in Trauma-Informed Care is an asset.

**Other Requirements**
- Position will be based in Edmonton.
- Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, with occasional evenings and weekends as required.
- Some travel within Alberta is a requirement.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and operational vehicle is required.
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required and renewed every two years.
- Intervention Record Check required and renewed every two years.
