We are looking for a Technical Officer, Machinist to support our Design and Fabrication Services. The Technical Officer, Machinist would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

Design and Fabrication Services (DFS) is the National Research Council's (NRC) principal design and fabrication organization supporting research and innovation by enabling the NRC research and engineering facilities through the timely delivery of precision mechanical prototype equipment and apparatus in line with the overall strategic direction of NRC.

The Technical Officer, Machinist is required to provide general machining and mechanical prototype fabrication services to DFS.

The Machinist works under the direction of a Senior Lead, Fabrication Service. He/she will be responsible for the process involve in the fabrication and machining of components/ prototype, which includes important steps such as: interpretation of verbal information, estimation of the work plan, and the actual fabrication process.

**Screening Criteria**:
**Education**:
A minimum of 1 year (800 Hour) Machinist and/or Tool Maker program from a recognized college or trade school.

A combination of formal relevant training and extensive experience may also be considered.

**Experience**:

- Basic experience working under the supervision of a tool and Die Maker/Supervisor and have fabricated and machined various parts.
- Basic experience operating various manual and CNC machines.
- Basic experience in the fabrication and assembling of mechanical components and equipment.
- Basic experience using CAD and CAM systems.
- Basic experience in machine maintenance such as coolant maintenance and lubrication.
- Basic - a few months and up to 2 years.

**Asset but not required**, experience in welding.

- Knowledge of good shop practice in the assembly and disassembly of mechanisms.
- Knowledge of conventions for tolerances and fits, and related engineering drawing notation practice.
- Knowledge of strength of materials.
- Knowledge of accepted practices in the selection and use of a wide range of fasteners including bolts, cap screws, machine screws, and rivets.
- Knowledge of shop safety practices.
- Ability to work from blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions.

**Compensation**:
**Salary under review**

From $49,298 to $69,364 per annum.
