The **Undergraduate Learning Services** in the **Faculty of Science** is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **PHAS Support Technician**.

Reporting to the Manager, Undergraduate Learning Services, the PHAS Technician works 35 hours per week and is a part of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE).
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Ensure equipment for the assigned teaching laboratories is functioning properly at the start of each new laboratory exercise cycle
- Ensure assigned teaching laboratories are set up accurately at the start of each laboratory teaching day
- Ensure equipment for the assigned teaching laboratories is taken down and properly stored at the end of each laboratory exercise cycle
- Ensure assigned equipment repair or construction is properly and efficiently completed
- Under the direction of the lead teaching lab technician and course instructors, ensure that any assigned laboratory development is properly and efficiently completed, including a clear, logical, and grammatically correct exercise write-up
- Interact courteously and constructively with the students
- Assist in the effective presentation of physics undergraduate lectures through presentation of practical demonstrations
- Participate in the development of new and existing practical demonstrations for undergraduate physics lectures
- Ensure assigned equipment repair or construction is properly and efficiently completed
- Ensure equipment for each demonstration is properly stored after it has been presented to all relevant lecture sections
- Under the direction of the teaching lab technicians and course instructors, ensure that any assigned development of a lecture demonstration is properly and efficiently completed, including a clear, concise, and grammatically correct demonstration description
- Organize and maintain the demonstration lab equipment
- Work with the teaching lab technicians and course instructors to develop or improve labs and demos to meet the curriculum needs
- Provide maintenance of the laboratory rooms in the form of experiment set-up and clean-up
- Test and maintain laboratory equipment
- Assist with the development of new laboratory exercises and equipment
- Identify professional development needs and skill priorities; continues own personal development, learning and training; keeps current with post-secondary developments
- Adhere to all university policy and regulatory requirements, including FOIP legislation
- Liaise with other units as appropriate
- Participate in cross-training to assist in other areas when needed and to meet Undergraduate Learning Services priorities
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Bachelor's degree in Physics (or equivalent) required
- Minimum 1-3 years of directly related experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills required
- Proven organizational skills, multitasking and high attention to detail required
- Ability to think critically and creatively under pressure while exercising good judgement and discretion required
- Demonstrated ability to be resourceful, creative, innovative, and flexible required
- The ability to work independently to tight timelines, maintain confidentiality and deal effectively with overlapping and changing deadlines is required
- Advanced Computer skills including MS Office Suite (including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel) and Linux OS required
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures is an asset
- Ability to build relationships to accomplish goals with a diverse groups within and outside of the Faculty of Science essential
- Must be willing to take all the University of Calgary required training
- Must be willing to have valid First Aid certification
