Electronics Technician, Faculty of Science

**Description**
The **Technical Operations Group** in the **Faculty of Science** is currently seeking a Full-time Regular **Electronics Technician**.
The Electronics Technician is responsible for providing technical support and advice to faculty, staff, and students for all departments within the Faculty of Science. This includes trouble shooting, repairing, maintaining, and modifying departmental electronic and electromechanical research and teaching equipment used in variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, teaching and research. The Electronics Technician will train users in the operation of various types of equipment.
Reporting to the Manager, Technical Support Services, the Electronics Technician works 35 hours per week and is a part of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE).
**Summary of Key Responsibilities** (job functions include but are not limited to):
Accountabilities
- Complete work assignments as directed by the Electronics Team Lead, with mínimal supervision and direction.
- Complete work with safety of self and others in mind a top priority.
- Collaborate with team members to on large scale projects, foster good team relationships and mutual understanding.
- Ensure that work in the Electronics Shop is completed in a timely professional manner.
- Display proper customer service courtesy and manner to clients.
- Work productively with team members from across the Science Technical Support Services (Sister Workshops).
Tasks and Duties
- Perform an integrated systems approach that combines expert skill in theory of equipment design/function with conservative troubleshooting to repair and evaluate diverse and specialized instrumentation.
- Complete tasks thoughtfully, analytically, and to the best standard achievable.
- Ensure that work assigned is completed as required by the standards of all Governing Bodies (if required).
- Meeting all required codes, and University standards and procedures.
- Plan and organize tasks to meet the needs of clients in a timely manner.
- Provide applicable and reliable technical advice, expertise, and consultation.

- Identify professional development needs and skill priorities; continue own personal development, learning and training.
**Qualifications / Requirements**:
- Requires a minimum Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology from an accredited technical institute or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of practical technical experience.
- Preference for Electronics/Electrical related experience.
- Requires strong analytical skills: Problem-solving, understanding complex systems, and understanding interacted solutions.
- Requires ability to troubleshoot equipment/instrument issues in absence of technical manuals.
- Requires an understanding of the principles behind acquiring data used in scientific instruments.
- Familiarity with various electronically controlled systems (Pneumatic, Steam-driven, Hydraulic, Refrigeration).
- Requires excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
- Requires proven organizational skills, multitasking and high attention to detail.
- Requires the ability to be creative, innovative, and flexible.
- Requires the ability to work independently, under tight timelines, maintain confidentiality.
- Preference for the understanding of the University of Calgary policies and procedures.
- Certification in First aid is an asset.
