**About Us**:
The Office of Institutional Planning & Budgeting (IPB) is responsible for the management and coordination of the University’s planning and budgeting processes, and provides statistical, analytical, institutional research, and administrative support to the University’s Executive Officers and senior Senate and Board of Governors committees in planning, budgeting, and policy matters.
**Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the Associate Vice-President, Institutional Planning and Budgeting (IPB), the Director, Space Planning and Management oversees the strategic planning and utilization of campus spaces at Western University. The role provides strategic planning to direct the University’s space planning initiatives, including conducting space needs analyses and utilization studies, managing the assignment, modification, and evaluation of academic and administrative facilities usage at Western, and overseeing facility operations, equipment inventory, and space management. The Director is responsible for maintaining the University’s space inventory database, and providing analysis, and strategic decision support to the University’s senior leadership team on questions of space inventory, allocation, use, and condition across the entire University. The role helps to define immediate and long-term goals for space requirements and develops cost-effective strategies to achieve these objectives. The role works in collaboration with various units and departments to ensure space needs are met and align with the University’s strategic goals. The Director will offer guidance regarding the best methods, processes and systems for the effective measurement, storage and retrieval of data and will facilitate the completion of the tri-annual space inventory submission to the Council of Ontario Universities (COU). The role will identify areas for improvement, and develop, implement and maintain processes and procedures related to the analysis of various University space metrics. The Director provides management oversight to the space planning team within IPB, and works in collaboration with the other members of the IPB leadership team to oversee the day-to-day activities of IPB. The role will provide feedback, coaching, and guidance to staff in order to facilitate the completion of projects, and to assist in their professional development.
**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Architecture, Science, Engineering or a relevant field
- Master’s Degree is preferred
**Experience**:
- 5 years of space planning experience within a geographically large and multi-building corporation; preferably within an educational setting
- 2 years of experience managing staff and managing renovations and building projects
- Experience with building operations and maintenance, security access/systems, leasing, budgeting, IST infrastructure/installations
- Experience working with complex databases producing detailed data analysis and reports
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of techniques for planning, managing and coordinating multiple complex and large projects simultaneously, with competing priorities that involve a variety of stakeholders
- Ability to take initiative to find creative solutions, and to be proactive in identifying potential solutions
- Ability to effectively drive and manage change initiatives that align with organizational strategies and/or provide opportunities to increase efficiency
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Communication skills with the ability to converse with, write reports for, and deliver presentations to all levels of the organization
- Ability to deal confidentially with information that has financial, political, regulatory and reputational implications
- Innovative and flexible critical thinking skills to adjust to and implement new processes or technology to the University’s advantage
- Ability to make decisions and recommendations that are clearly linked to the organization's strategy and goals
