The Centre on Drug Policy Evaluation (CDPE), located within MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions at the St. Michael’s Hospital site of Unity Health Toronto, strives to improve community health and safety by conducting research and outreach on best practices in drug policy. Working collaboratively with affected communities, civil society, practitioners, and governments, the CDPE guides effective and evidence-based policy responses to substance use.

The CDPE is recruiting a research coordinator III, who will act as their **Lead of Cohort Studies and Community Engagement**. This position will be a full-time temporary position at St. Michael’s Hospital (37.5 hours per week for one year with the likelihood of extension).

The Manager of Cohort Studies and Community Engagement reports to CDPE’s Operations Manager, receives direction from study investigators, and supervises study staff. The position will have two main priorities:

- Support, facilitate, and organize current and future studies involving a longitudinal cohort of people who use drugs in Toronto.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with community health agencies participating in these studies (harm reduction agencies, supervised consumption sites, shelter hotels), and lead the coordination of CDPE’s Community Steering Committee

The position will work on the following studies involving cohort participants:

- A study to evaluate safer supply programs being implemented at partnering community health agencies in the downtown core.
- A study to evaluate an injectable iOAT program at a partnering community health agency
- A study using HCV and HIV point-of-care testing and linkage to care intervention offered within harm reduction services

**Responsibilities**:

- Develops and oversees processes to ensure the effective operation of studies and research projects/manuscripts (e.g., study schedules, interviewer schedules, recruitment and retainment plans, etc.)
- Manages and supports the organization of the CDPE wide community steering committee
- Works Collaboratively with partner organizations, leading community stakeholder meetings to provide updates on ongoing projects and strategize new project ideas
- Manages the dispensation and tracking of participant honoraria in accordance with CDPE and Unity Health Toronto policies and procedures
- Contributes to the development of study materials, including protocols, consent forms, promotional materials, and related documentation, in collaboration with investigators
- Organizes all aspects of primary data collection and analyses, including the development and refinement of questionnaires, ensuring data collected is free from error, liaising with interviewers, trainees, and analysts, and coordinating data requests made by study teams
- Supervises study interviewers, meeting with them regularly to offer support, guidance, troubleshooting, problem solve, and to equip them the with supplies, equipment, and materials they need to fulfill their roles and responsibilities
- Acts as the primary point of contact for partnering community health agencies (harm reduction agencies, supervised consumption sites, shelter hotels), fostering robust relationships, ensuring all parties are satisfied with study operations and research
- Coordinates meetings of study teams and partners
- Contributes to the development of study budgets and management of study funds, in collaboration with the operations manager
- Contributes to written and financial reports for funders, such as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation
- Supports knowledge translation activities by preparing and disseminating regular reports, conducting presentations to inform study teams and partners, and tracking impact
- Conducts interviews with study participants in conjunction with or in place of study interviewers, as required
- Contributes to the preparation and publication of peer-reviewed publications

**Please note, while portions of this role may be remote, having an onsite (i.e., in-person) presence at St. Michael’s Hospital and partnering community health agencies is required.**

**Qualifications and skills**:

- Masters Degree and more than 3 years of relevant experience, OR Demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience.
- More than 3 years of relevant professional experience, particularly related to project coordination and community-based health research
- Firm understanding of or interest in harm reduction, the challenges faced by people who use drugs, and the overdose crisis
- Experience developing and coordinating research ethics materials and processes. TCPS CORE 2 and GCP certificates are required to be completed within the first 2 weeks of hire
- Experience in community engagement
- Experience coordinating the collection of primary data
- Experience collecting primary data (i.e., interviewing) an asset
- Exceptional relationship building skills,
