Hse & HR Coordinator

The HR & HSE Coordinator provides both corporate and on-site support to Principle Projects. The primary function of this role is to provide support of our core human resources and health, safety, and environment management systems. This position will be evenly split between office and field.
The field locations vary in length and location - travel throughout the province of Alberta will be required. The office location is in Strathcona County.
Essential Functions
- Ensure the company’s human resources and health, safety, and environment programs are maintained to the highest level of performance.
- Reviews and updates the company's health and safety program and polices to continually improve the health and safety performance of the operation and business.
- Conducts regular inspections and audits of the internal and COR program; discusses corrective action requirements with supervisory staff.
- Implements a system of planned inspections to determine the existence of and correct unsafe conditions and practices.
- Conducts hazard analysis and develops safe work procedures and circulates rules and regulations governing the worksite.
- Provides support for incident reporting, root cause analysis and investigation follow-up of the recommendations. Informs management and supervisory personnel of the overall incident trends.
- Review and develop Safety Management Plans.
- Liaises with Occupational Health & Safety, and owners/clients as needed to ensure cooperation and the maintenance of a safe work environment.
- Provides support for emergency response and facility security management.
- Keeps current on developments in industry and incident prevention.
- Take an active role in the development of the monthly safety message, distribution and publication.
- Support, gather and compile all incidents and statistical information required for our monthly statistical reporting and corporate reporting.
- Support the Certificate of Recognition auditing program, COR certification, internal and external audits, results and distribution of corrective action plan, and manage personal training requirements for ACSA.
- Ensure the proper structure and management of specific corporate programs; work with potential service provider for support
- Responsible for overseeing A&D procedures for testing facilities.
- WCB Claims management.
- Support industry-requested safety registries.
- Work directly with and support management and site supervision with HSE/HR initiatives, audits and advice.
- Create and maintain all Code of Practice and Safe Operating Procedures.
- Developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate human resources and labour relations strategies including policies, programs and procedures to address an organization's human resource requirements
- Advise employers and employees on the interpretation of human resources policies & compensation
- Maintain staff organization by establishing a recruiting and interview program, conduct exit interviews and recommend changes to executive management.
- Mediate labour disputes and grievances and provide advice on employee and labour relations
- Research and prepare occupational classifications, job descriptions, salary scales and competency appraisal measures and systems
- Plan and administer staffing, total compensation, training and career development, employee assistance, employment equity and affirmative action programs
- Manage programs and maintain human resources information and related records systems
- Assist with hiring and oversee training of staff
- Co-ordinate employee performance appraisal programs
- Research human resources and health and safety practices and recommend changes or modifications to existing policies.
- Ensure legal compliance.
- Nurture a positive working environment.
- Maintains confidentiality of all Principle Projects Ltd businesses
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to perform multi tasks in an environment where priorities can change rapidly
- Demonstrated ability to manage and operate computerized systems
- Excellent time management skills and ability to anticipate and manage a changing workflow
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills including internet use (Microsoft Office)
- In depth knowledge of WCB, employee standards and human rights
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills
- Demonstrated effective communication and problem-solving skills
- Open and committed to further training as recommended
Qualifications:
- 5 to 10 years of related work experience or combination of relevant education and experience.
- Completed post-secondary education in OHS (diploma or equivalent) and Human Resources
- Either eligible or designated - Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) considered an ass
