**Role Responsibilities**:
The Manager of Management and Systems Planning leads system and site-level planning to support the sustainable management of Alberta’s provincial parks system. Providing day-to-day management of staff, this position is accountable for systems planning, park management planning at multiple scales, and the development of planning frameworks, decision supports and tools. The position develops innovative solutions that address current pressures, provide long-term guidance, and enable a harmonized and effective park planning program.
This position requires a collaborative and thoughtful approach to lead planning programs involving multiple clients and stakeholders including the public, Indigenous communities, local communities and other departmental staff at various levels.
- Responsibility highlights include:
- Create and maintain systems frameworks and analysis defining objectives for conservation, recreation, tourism, and education within the provincial parks system.
- Conduct land analysis and park system monitoring to guide decisions on park designations, boundaries, and land securement.
- Develop options and recommendations to inform and support integrated planning initiatives such as Land-use Framework regional and sub-regional planning.
- Oversee delivery of management plans, development plans, directives, and tools that direct a park's role, significance, visitor experience, appropriate facilities, and management objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement in planning to enhance equitable park management and engage Indigenous Nations, communities, Albertans, visitors, and stakeholders.
- Lead the development and implementation of planning frameworks to achieve park, recreation, and tourism outcomes for holistic park system management.
- Develop a suite of planning solutions that guide a cohesive and harmonized planning program and provincial and site-specific scales.
- Coordinate input across the division, explore best practices, and test innovative solutions to ensure efficient and practical deliverables.
- Lead and supervise a diverse team, ensuring performance standards and supporting staff development.
- Foster a team culture based on APS values of excellence, respect, integrity, and accountability.

**Qualifications**:
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in a related field (planning, park or natural resource management, conservation, human geography, recreation, tourism), with 6 years of experience and direct experience managing or supervising others.
Equivalencies will be considered for 1 year of related education for 1 year of experience and vice versa.
- Additional Requirements:
- Class 5 Driver’s License with 3-year driver’s abstract.
- Extensive experience in park, recreation, and/or conservation planning.
- Extensive experience fostering relationships with stakeholders, communities, and various departments will be essential.
