**About Us**:
The International and Intergovernmental Relations (IIR) unit was created to advance and develop Alberta's strategic international interests and relationships, manage Alberta's international policy interests, manage Alberta's intergovernmental relationships within Canada, and support Alberta's economic growth/recovery and diversification efforts.
This team develops intergovernmental strategies on issues of importance to Alberta and Canada, with its partners, clients and stakeholders to address challenges and grow opportunities. They coordinate Alberta's leadership and participation within the Canadian federation in pursuit of a federal system that best serves the needs of Albertans and Canadians.

**Role**:
Put your extensive analytic skills to good use by joining a dynamic team of professionals in the Executive Council (Intergovernmental/Federal/Provincial Relations).

This opportunity provides critical support to Intergovernmental Relations, with a focus on federal/provincial relations and key ongoing Premier meetings/conferences (i.e. Council of the Federation, Western Premiers' Conference, New West Partnership, Bilateral meetings, First Ministers' Meetings, etc.).

Your role as the Intergovernmental Officer is to provide information and analysis on political and policy developments in Canada.

You will conduct research and analysis to support Intergovernmental Relation’s core businesses of providing strategic advice and policy analysis, analyzing and disseminating information, coordinating Alberta’s policies and activities, and advancing Alberta’s interests.

High-level responsibilities include:

- Supporting the coordination of Alberta’s participation in intergovernmental meetings and conferences (e.g. Council of Federation meetings, the Western Premiers’ Conference, the New West Partnership, etc.).
- Providing Intergovernmental monitoring and liaison, supporting core business areas with strategic advice, policy analysis, and information analysis and dissemination, as identified in the Executive Council business plan.
- Providing support to various members of Executive Council in communicating information and analysis.
- Providing support, advice, and review of intergovernmental agreements
- Participating in policy recommendations and strategies concerning issues in federalism and intergovernmental relations. Ensuring that accurate and up-to-date background information is readily available if requested.

**Qualifications**:

- University graduation in Political Science, Canadian Studies, or a related discipline plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience

**Equivalencies to be considered as below**:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

**Assets**:

- Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Constitution (particularly as it relates to the division of powers)
- Experience in academic research techniques
- Experience in intergovernmental relations, policy development and/or project management

$2,588.06 to $ 3,397.76 bi-weekly ($67,548 to $88,681/year)
