The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.

**Position Purpose**:
The role of the Equity and Inclusion Specialist is to coordinate, support, and advocate, with historically, persistently, or systematically marginalized groups to embed Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion practices within all levels of the AMS. This position is responsible for the implementation and coordination of the AMS Equity Action Plan and related policies across the organization in partnership with affected groups, external consultants, and AMS Executives, Council, and Senior Managers. This position will also be responsible for leading research related to equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as coordinating and executing relevant campaigns, consultations, and communications. The position will supervise and work with two student positions: the Equity & Inclusion Coordinator and Indigenous Engagement Facilitator, as well as work collaboratively with all Executives and across the AMS to implement EDI initiatives and best practices.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Work with all AMS departments (permanent and student staff), including Managing Director, Executives regarding issues and matters relating to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
- Work with external consultants and AMS leadership to implement the AMS Equity Action Plan.
- Collaborate across all AMS departments (permanent and student staff) to develop and support actionable implementation strategies for the Plan, set up measurable metrics, and support reporting back processes on progress to AMS leadership.
- Supervise and oversee two part-time, student staff positions, Equity & Inclusion Coordinator and Indigenous Engagement Facilitator on relevant EDI projects and duties, which involves day-to-day task delegation.
- Support student staff in maintaining active channels of communication with various student communities, especially those that support and advocate for equity-seeking communities.
- Provide assistance to student staff in organizing and facilitating events and initiatives that foster intercultural and equity fluency throughout a variety of student groups on campus.
- Develop EDI learning principles, training content and lead EDI training sessions for varying levels of AMS departments (permanent and student staff).
- Provide support to all levels of AMS including AMS staff, clubs, services, resource groups, and members on issues and matters relating to EDI.
- Coordinate, engage, and consult with student groups on campus alongside Equity & Inclusion Coordinator, especially marginalized communities, to create and inform plans, advocacy, and events through an EDI lens.
- Research, review, and write policies, statements, and briefing papers on issues related to EDI initiatives.
- Coordinate and measure the effectiveness of EDI best practices within the AMS through collection, analysis and compilation of metrics and provide meaningful recommendations.
- Work with the AMS mission statement and values to operate a successful department.
- Other duties as required.

**Qualifications and Experience**:

- Undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate in a related field (e.g., social sciences, sociology, cultural studies, social work, human resources management with a focus on EDI), or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of recent, relevant EDI working experience.
- Knowledge and expertise in EDI concepts, best practices, standards, techniques, tools, and support.
- Experience utilizing change management principles to initiate an emphasis on integration of EDI principles within all AMS departments.
- Demonstrated capacity for critical and strategic thinking with solid tracking, analytical and reporting skills for EDI KPIs.
- Strong project management skills with an understanding and ability to work with urgent and fluctuating deadlines.
- Experience in researching and writing high quality policies, research papers, briefing notes, and other communications
- Experience with training development, and facilitation principles for students and adult learners to develop and facilitate diversity and inclusion training sessions
- Experience directly advising executive or senior leadership or individuals with supervisory responsibilities.
