Working under the direction of the Associate Vice President (AVP), External Relations, the Manager of Institutional Priorities and Strategic Planning is responsible for managing the University’s strategic plan and supporting the President and the Board with the development of the next strategic plan. The Manager also is responsible for identifying opportunities, advising on new funding opportunities, proposal development, implementing project plans, reporting about the strategic plan progress, and responding to the objectives and priorities of the Institution. The position is responsible for project management; from planning to implementation and monitoring of special and community partnership projects, to ensure the objectives of the President and strategic plan can be carried out efficiently and effectively.

The Manager of Institutional Priorities and Strategic Planning will coordinate, lead, and assist with projects, initiatives, and activities within the External Relations Unit for the University. The individual must be willing to respond to given priorities of the day and be willing to work cooperatively in a challenging and dynamic environment. This position will support leadership with special projects and advancement initiatives for the University.

**Responsibilities**:
Work as key member of the External Relations Unit to support the President with planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of special projects and initiatives, including but not limited to:
**Planning**:

- Provides input and support to the annual unit-level planning.
- Supports ongoing operational reporting on the key performance indicators and outcomes-based results.
- Leads proposal development including prioritization, resource allocation, projected timelines and scheduling related to the strategic plan.
- Identifies project risks and provides recommendations for mitigation.
- Contributes to development and alignment of internal policies and procedures.
- Plans, executes and reports on large scale projects with mínimal supervision.

**People Leadership**
- Provides day-to-day direction to project team members including prioritizing and delegation of work, ensuring work quality and completion, and managing scheduling and attendance.
- Engages in performance management practices with direct reports, including coaching, goal setting and providing feedback.
- Assists with monitoring culture and productivity and provides recommendations to the AVP External Relations.
- Supports in building partnerships and relationships with external stakeholders in collaboration with other Units.
- Provides guidance and advice on escalated and challenging issues.
- Provides input on performance management of related units with regards to the strategic plan.

**Stakeholder Relationship**
- Provides support to the President and Executive Group
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and coordination with internal stakeholders to identify communication needs, plans and programs
- Participates on committees and working groups, provides input and advice, and undertakes research and information gathering to inform decisions
- Support the reporting process of priorities for the President’s office and External Relations and drives implementation of the strategic plan.
- Develop draft communications such as remarks, presentations, and correspondence to a multitude of stakeholders as it relates to the strategic plan.
- Ensure the appropriate collection, analysis and reporting of data required for analysis, strategic planning and decision making to support Institutional objectives.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- A University degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Certificate in project planning or development is considered an asset.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Minimum of five (5) years of previous experience including project management/strategic planning and two years of supervisory experience preferably in a higher education, health sector or entrepreneurial setting
- Knowledge of operational management practices including project management planning, and human resources
- Knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in project management and strategic planning
- Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, portfolios, and divisions
- Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
- Knowledge is used to lead projects
