If you share our values and would like to work with skilled professionals, Armour is presently seeking a **Safety and Compliance Specialist**
Reporting to the Manager of Quality Assurance & Process Improvement, the Safety and Compliance Specialist will be responsible for helping to create and enforce a culture of safety within all areas of The Armour Group Limited’s portfolio, with a specific focus in the food & beverage sector.
**As the Safety and Compliance Specialist, you’ll get to**:
- Developing, implementing and maintaining comprehensive site-specific workplace safety programs and procedures to ensure compliance with local laws, regulations and best practices, including OH&S and CFIA regulations.
- Conducting regular inspections and audits of all locations to ensure adherence to standards and procedures; liaising with government departments and regulatory bodies to manage external inspections.
- Ensuring that staff are current with all necessary training and certifications, including food handling, serve right, WHMIS and first aid.
- Evaluating and monitoring suppliers to ensure they meet food safety standards and maintaining records of certifications.
- Collaborating with management and employees on safety, including active participation in the JOHS committees.
- Developing and delivering training sessions and training materials for all levels of staff to promote awareness of safety practices and procedures, hygiene standards and operational compliance.
- Creating and maintaining a culture of safety and quality, coaching team members to identify, address and mitigate potential hazards in the workplace.
- Investigating and analyzing workplace incidents and near misses, including food safety incidents and complaints. Prepare detailed reports, identifying root causes and recommending action.
- Assisting in monitoring and evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of the food safety and OH&S programs. Regularly recommending and implementing improvements to enhance overall effectiveness of programs.
- Providing regular reporting to leadership on effectiveness of programs and areas for improvement.
- Staying abreast of changes in relevant laws, regulations and best practices.
**What we’re looking for**:
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of safety and food safety laws, regulations and best practices, preferably in the restaurant or hospitality industry.
- A professional certification in safety and/or food safety (e.g. Certified Food Safety Manager, Certified Health and Safety Consultant or Canadian Registered Safety Professional).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to engage effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Experience in developing and delivering training material.
- Ability to work with demanding deadlines, independently and with a team.
- Ability to travel to sites within Halifax Regional Municipality and New Brunswick.
