Field Safety Specialist

The Opportunity:

Key elements of this role include:
- Work toward an integrated approach to safety through continuous improvement of systems and processes
- Support roll out of strategic safety initiatives including Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) prevention, focusing on STKY (stuff that can kill you) and psychological health and safety
- Work closely with management and the IBEW in developing Safe Work Practices
- Act as a Liaison with regulatory agencies
- Perform field safety Observations, and provide feedback to the field
- Measure the compliance of your assigned operating area with the requirements of the Safety Program through auditing
- Provide coaching & advise on safety related issues to all levels of the business
- Ensure the Safety Program meets or exceeds regulatory requirements
- Provide technical advice as it relates to safety
- Track safety performance and identify trends, communicate trends with supervisors in your area
- Facilitate meetings concerning safety initiatives
- Provide and develop safety related education to meet your customer’s needs
- Attend management team meetings to ensure a consistent message is delivered
- Assist JOHSC Investigation teams in determining immediate and root factors associated with an incident and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented
- Work with other utilities and industries to improve safety in the workplace
- Travel throughout the Valley, South Shore and Metro Territory with a focus on Energy Delivery, Hydro and Wind

- You must have a demonstrated passion for safety and experience working with world class safety programs.
- You must be a self-motivator with demonstrated experience working independently. You also have several years’ experience working in an industrial environment preferably with the transmission and distribution of an electrical utility.
- A CRSP / CRST designation or working towards it would be considered a definite asset.
- This position calls for exemplary relationship building, communication, and motivational skills. You will build and maintain working relationships with teams within Nova Scotia Power and its operating areas.
- The successful applicant has demonstrated their effectiveness as a team leader and easily crosses organizational boundaries to work effectively as part of an integrated team. You are confident in your ability to make the right decision.
- You must possess a current, valid driver’s license and be willing to travel within and outside the province as required. The preferred applicant should be willing to relocate if needed.
