**Summary**

Reporting to the Partnerships Manager, the Social Researcher will support community based research projects out of the National Capital Region. The objectives of the research will be to develop tools and resources for gathering data to analyze and discern policies, procedures, and practices of local, regional, and national institutions, businesses, and agencies that contribute to the social, economic, and advocacy needs of CAP constituents.

Social Researchers will first undertake a literature review to articulate objectives of sustainable development and Truth and Reconciliation in legislation, government policy, and existing research. From this, a research instrument will be designed to collect data on the policies and procedures, operations, and practices adopted by various actors in off-reserve, urban and rural Indigenous communities that contribute to Sustainable Development Goals and truth and reconciliation.

Social researchers will receive weekly supervision meetings with their supervisor or mentor, external to the organization, with experience in policy and/or strategic planning.

- Knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and the Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls’ Calls to Justice
- Interest and experience in social sciences research
- First-hand experience with traditional Indigenous knowledge, inherent rights, Indigenous identity
- Demonstrated track record showing initiative and being a self-starter
- Knowledge of strategic planning and program logic models
- Experience doing community outreach

**What** **you'll do**
- Meet with CAP program administrators, Partnerships Manager, and researchers for orientation and to assist in developing a detailed workplan
- Conduct a brief literature review into documents concerning Truth and Reconciliation and Sustainable Development in government policy and reports
- Create a rubric that highlights environmental, social, and economic wellbeing indicators related to policies, procedures, and practices that enable equitable access to information, resources, and opportunities.
- Develop a survey that enables analysis of activities that support Truth and Reconciliation and sustainable development.
- Help produce messaging for social media that promotes truth and reconciliation and sustainable development
- Develop database and do data entry as required

***You'll need to have**
- High School diploma
- Experience doing research in either academic or customer service/corporate settings
- Knowledge of Indigenous histories on Turtle Island, the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions’ Calls to Action and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls’ Calls to Justice
- Experience working in Microsoft Excel worksheets and making data tables
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills; written and oral skills
- Lived experience navigating systems as an Indigenous person or other oppressed group.
- Experience with collecting, analyzing and interpreting data

**Our** **working** **conditions**
- Hybrid work to be performed from the CAP National Office based in Ottawa. Between 2 and 4 days in office per week.
