**The Role**:
Researches, analyses, and forecasts data and trends in collaboration with internal and external partners. Develops, compiles, and maintains economic databases, reports, economic profiles, and interactive dashboards, for internal and external audiences and for economic studies. Administers datasets to support economic development projects/initiatives (e.g., economic recovery, aerospace, and aviation strategy). Provides technical expertise to internal and external clients.

**Duties/Responsibilities**:
Prepares research, data analysis, economic profiles, and forecasts data (using primary and secondary sources) in support of official Region of Waterloo Strategic and Economic Plans, and departmental projects/initiatives (e.g., smart cities, talent attraction) in collaboration with internal and external partners. Datasets include social, economic, industry, demographic, census, talent, tourism, real estate, construction activity, land use, and air service.

Responds to economic development related information requests from community partners, area municipalities, investors, businesses, and the public. Prepares custom information packages, as requested. Provides research and analysis to divisions/departments, as requested.

Leads/participates on committees and project teams with area municipalities and other groups to share information and research and collaborate on joint projects/initiatives. Develops work plans and ensures project completion.

Administers, prepares, and maintains datasets and databases to track information in partnership with internal/external partners (e.g., census data, real estate, development, employment, Conference Board of Canada, air service). Liaises with corporate staff and external vendors/ system owners and partners to ensure data and system maintenance and integrity (e.g., updates, license renewals).

Compiles, reviews, and prepares data to measure economic competitiveness, regional investment opportunities, and talent attraction.

Prepares benchmarking and monitoring reports, and briefs to evaluate and measure economic development initiatives, indicators, and trends. Monitors key performance indicators and market trends.

Tracks and collects information related to commercial, industrial, agriculture, tourism, and institutional sectors to assess trends and projections of growth/decline for economic development and planning analytics. Performs data capture, manipulation and integration, as required.

Conducts cost/benefit analysis to assess the net increase/decrease in local economic activity (assessment and construction trends) and jobs related to the implementation, expansion, or contraction of specific economic activity projects/activity.

Prepares, maintains, and catalogues an inventory of internal, external, and corporate data reporting requirements and facilitates data reporting.

Collates information and prepares economic development related reports, presentations, information graphics, briefs, and profiles.

Supports the maintenance of content related to Waterloo Region’s economic profile and statistics used in publications, including website.

Designs, automates, and maintains databases and reports, profiles, and interactive dashboards of program performance data (e.g., data dictionaries, visualizations, indicators, self-serve analysis functions, market profile reports). Collaborates with corporate partners to integrate economic data into dashboards. Assists teams and management to interpret results, and identity market trends, as required. Maintains data on intranet and website.

Creates, recommends, and implements data quality control/quality assurance processes to ensure useful, quality information is captured.

Participates on departmental and corporate data committees, as required.

Assists management to develop a data strategy as it relates to supporting economic development projects/initiatives and the Office’s mandate.

Works with Community Planning Division staff regarding data. Works with communications staff regarding content for publication and to communicate/translate data findings and key messages. Provides information/data and technical expertise to other departments/divisions. Works with corporate GIS team for data mapping.
