The Economic Strategy and Investment Division at Jobs, Economy and Trade is tasked with understanding Alberta’s competitive situation in existing and emerging industries and proposing and executing policies and initiatives to make our province more competitive.

Developing a compelling business case for investors requires analytical rigour, an ability to understand the private-sector perspective and collaboration across divisions, ministries and governments.

As a Manager, you will be accountable for leading a team that considers diverse and sometimes conflicting analysis, broad industry intelligence and national and global trends to strategically position our province relative to competing jurisdictions.

Reporting to the Director of Intergovernmental and Strategic Initiatives, the Manager of Intergovernmental and Cross Ministry Strategy leads the development, integration and execution of intergovernmental strategies and initiatives to support economic growth, diversification, investment competitiveness and job creation in Alberta

The Manager performs the following tasks as a part of their role:

- Develop and maintain a clear understanding of federal, provincial and territorial priorities, and how the ministry may further economic strategy priorities through collaboration with other jurisdictions. Ensure that the Executive Director, Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister and Minister are aware of, and provided timely strategic advice on how to respond to intergovernmental economic and investment developments.
- Identify intergovernmental partners that may be impacted by the ministry's strategic economic initiatives and engage them to ensure an integrated cross-government approach and early risk identification.
- Develop strategic relationships across the Government of Alberta, with other federal, provincial and territorial governments, and with stakeholders to ensure Alberta's perspectives are considered in strategic economic policy and program development and implementation, and that federal funding sources are leveraged to further the department's strategic priorities.
- Create intergovernmental strategies and action plans for engagement with federal departments responsible for economic strategy, policy and programming.
- Strengthen Alberta's investment attraction ecosystem through facilitating the sharing of investment intelligence between federal and provincial partners.
- Supervise and lead a team of program services professionals using a strong systems thinking approach, in particular in the identification of impacts, interconnectedness and/or unintended consequences across a broad range of policy, program development and strategic accountabilities.
