**Position Title: Strategic Projects OAL (Operations Area Lead)**
**Team and Location: PRBC Refinery - Burnaby, BC**
**Minimum Starting Salary from: $**118,800 / year**
**Position Summary**:
- The primary focus of this role is to ensure that all assigned projects have Operations input and involvement, and that all Operations Assurance activities and deliverables are completed in a timely manner through all project phases - from conceptual design to commissioning, start-up, and project close-out including Turnaround execution activities.
- The OAL will be a key member of Tail Gas Recovery, Non-Phenolic Sour Water Stripper and FCC Co-Pro Expansion Projects. They will need to work effectively with different Project Managers, project team members and engineering consultants. They will need to prioritize their work to ensure that all projects are effectively supported.
- The Strategic Projects OAL must ensure all operations requirements are captured early in project design to ensure that the project is designed in an efficient and cost-effective manner. They must also work closely with the project team ensure that the plant meets all operability expectations on start-up and in operation.
- The OAL may be asked to support Turnaround and Sustain projects in parallel with Strategic projects when there is capacity to do so.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Support IIF/LPS and champion a safe workplace through action.
- Provide operations input & approvals in all project meetings, design reviews (PFD/P&ID reviews, constructability and maintainability, 3D model reviews, AOA). Provide input into the design of facilities to ensure they meet expectations for safe and reliable operations for the life of the facility. Work with project teams to find innovative solutions to meet operability expectations while minimizing total installed cost and lifecycle cost.
- Coordinate between project team and with 24/7 operations during construction and have detailed plans in place for staffing, turnover, commissioning, and startup. Participate in morning meetings as required during construction.
- Develop release of equipment procedures for new equipment.
- Steward operational MOC deliverables.
- Develop and approve SIMOPS plans for construction.
- Conduct routine field walks during construction. Attend operations and contractor toolboxes on a regular basis to share project updates and address any upcoming challenges. Develops CJSA’s for field work within process units.
- Develop and approve revised operating standards and procedures for new process equipment or process units. Develop or approve training materials - potentially delivering training.
- Develop and approve commissioning, staffing and start up plans and procedures for all new equipment
**Qualifications and Skills**:
- Demonstrated commitment to IIF Culture and Safe Operations
- Ability to work on own initiative to develop and implement innovative solutions to business problems.
- 5 or more years of refinery operations experience.
- Detailed process unit knowledge would be an advantage. Particularly FCC and SRU operations.
- A broad understanding of PRBC work groups and interactions.
- Prioritization, effective verbal and written communications.
- Ability to build strong relationships, trust, and find solutions to difficult challenges.
- Strong leadership ability.
- Previous experience with projects and project management tools would be an asset.
