Our story began nearly three decades ago, when our three founding members (who are also brothers) came together in their parents' basement to bring their ambition to life. Today, we have 75,000 square feet of storage space to call our own, where we house products for our clients so they can access whatever they need, when they need it. Our solutions include customized services and products that will meet any unique resource supply needs. We work closely with customers to figure out the best possible options we can offer that will save time, money and even storage space. We will ensure every resource supply journey is as simple and as seamless as possible.
THE COMPANY
In conjunction with the Executive Team, The Head of People and Culture (P&C) is responsible for establishing and implementing our people strategy aimed to develop, reward, retain, and attract people to grow Gertex’s businesses, brand, and culture. The Head of People & Culture designs and implements strategies, programs, processes, policies, and initiatives that are aligned with the company’s business plans and strategic direction. All efforts are made with the intent to continually strengthen our culture, employee effectiveness and engagement. The Head of P&C is a member of the Senior Management Team and the Strategic Planning Committee.
Accountabilities and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Business and Strategic Planning /Leadership
- Set the organization’s people strategy by planning, implementing and evaluating practices, processes, programs and policies in alignment with overarching organizational goals.
- Evaluate and advise on short-term and long-term people-related needs, and represent new or emerging people and culture priorities, insights, and plans.
- Provide recommendations in people-related areas which include organizational culture, employment policies and legislation, and workforce planning.
- Oversee organizational design/workforce planning that ensures company objectives and strategies are supported by updating roles and responsibilities, aligning competencies, and maintaining job descriptions for all positions within the company.
- Be a trusted, proactive and effective business leader, partner and advisor to Gertex management, providing ongoing advice and counsel on all people-related matters and needs.
Organizational Culture and Employee Experience
- Enhance employee engagement and further reinforce an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, continuous improvement and high performance.
- Lead employee feedback initiatives to gather inputs on how to continually improve practices to maintain strong employee engagement and experiences, and design action plans accordingly.
- Continually assess industry best practices focused upon enhancing culture and engagement, and thoughtfully recommend new practices to the Executive Team, sharing well thought out plans to take concepts into practice successfully.
- Take further steps to establish the company as a leading employer in Ontario and promote the organization’s brand as an employer of choice.
- Maintain an effective system of P&C communications throughout the organization and provide support to the Executive Team in managing communications internally.
- Continue to develop the Gertex culture by being strongly committed to its Vision, Mission and Core Value s, and being a role model who exhibits exemplary behaviours.
People & Culture Leadership
- Effectively lead all ongoing P&C activities surrounding (but not limited to) recruitment and retention, training and development, performance management, compensation planning, rewards and recognition, and succession planning.
- Recommend and plan for any unique or ad-hoc special projects pertaining to people and culture.
- Ensure organizational policies are communicated clearly and efficiently, are reviewed regularly to ensure they are up to date and are signed off on annually to align to compliance requirements.
- Leverage existing HR technologies in place while assessing opportunities to improve and streamline technologies to better automate processes, analyze results, and report on metrics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources with professional HR designation (i.e. CHRL) required.
- A minimum of 7 years of HR Business Partner/Generalist experience, ideally with 3-5 years of proven success at the leadership level of a growing company.
- Successful experience leading P&C functions and demonstrates technical depth in all areas of human resources management.
- Experience supporting M&A an asset.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to translate business needs into strategy and actions.
- Effective presentation skills, formally or informally. Commands attention and manages group process, is cognizant of audience response, and able to adapt content and style accordingly.
- Thoughtful leader and progressive thinker, with the ability to articulate ideas and opportunities to achieve new solutions and desired outcomes.
- Proven track record of delivering results on both strategic and tactical objectives with a sense of urgency in a collaborative environment. Demonstrates capacity to skillfully communicate (both verbal and written) with all levels of employees.
- Results-driven, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task across ongoing projects in a dynamic environment.
- Possesses excellent organizational and time management skills to effectively manage and reconcile competing priorities.
- Has advanced knowledge of Canadian employment law and related legislation.
- High level of computer literacy and experience with Microsoft suite of products.
