The purpose of the Director, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is to ensure that UHN has an effective suite of programs to promote and ensure the achievement of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility & Anti-racism (IDEAA) objectives and the creation of an inclusive and accessible working and learning environment across UHN. The incumbent is responsible for designing and/or sponsoring educational programs and communications that enhance cultural awareness, promote the values of IDEAA to UHN stakeholders, and promote positive behavioral change. Additionally, the successful incumbent will lead the attainment of IDEAA goals for UHN, track progress, support and educate managers and HR representatives in understanding complex IDEAA issues, and help to identify and remove systemic contributors to inequity.

Major Outcomes

  • Effective programs are established and maintained to promote Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, including Accessibility and Anti-racism principles.
  • Education and Communication programs are delivered to promote understanding and the positive acceptance and value of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Core Human Resource Management processes are reviewed, adjusted and monitored for sources of systemic bias.
  • Accessibility standards, best practices and legislation are fully integrated into UHN standard practices.
  • Key stakeholders receive expert, context-sensitive analysis and advice.
  • Representation gaps are measured and progress made to closing gaps.

Duties

  • Assist in the development and implement the organization's overarching IDEAA strategy.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on IDEAA trends and best practices.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to stakeholders.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving relevant statutory and common law accessibility, human rights and IDEAA standards.
  • Support UHN Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) with guidance and access to resources.
  • Lead the creation and delivery of IDEAA education programs.
  • Develop a calendar of IDEAA communications for UHN.
  • Advocate for the integration of IDEAA principles into all aspects of organizational operations.
  • Manage AODA regulatory requirements and promote accessibility across UHN.
  • Collaborate with People & Culture to ensure equity in hiring, promotion and compensation practices.
  • Collect and analyze data on equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Foster relationships with external organizations and community groups to support IDEAA initiatives.

Education:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Social Sciences, Social Work or another related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Specialized education in Human Rights, accommodation, cultural competency and/or diversity.
  • Relevant experience may be substituted for academic preparation.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Diversity and/or Employment Equity.
  • Adept at building productive working relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong facilitator with experience driving decision making with leadership teams.
  • Track record of building trust and empowering individuals and teams.
  • Commitment to creating inclusive environments and advancing equity and diversity.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Thorough understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
  • Proven experience regarding anti-racism and reconciliation principles.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and communicate findings effectively.
