Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Purchasing Manager is responsible for managing and executing all purchasing transactions, maintaining established inventory levels, managing raw material and freight costs, and proactively resolving any supply chain issues for the US and Canadian manufacturing plants. The key function of this role is ensuring all raw materials are available for manufacturing to meet demand schedule at negotiated best pricing and terms with the suppliers.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Administer purchasing processes and procedures including RFP/RFQs, bids, purchase orders and all related transactions
- Source and obtain price quotations from suppliers and prepare purchase orders
- Negotiate best pricing and terms of goods and services
- Evaluate, identify, and select existing and new suppliers/vendors to achieve the best quality, price, and delivery
- Review purchase orders for accuracy and verify materials, packaging, and supplies support our demand schedule and optimum inventory levels
- Maintain ERP Purchasing and Inventory modules in real time
- Focus on driving cost savings while maintaining a positive and collaborative vendor relationships
- Contact suppliers/vendors to schedule deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed deliveries, quality issues and invoicing issues as required
- Work on material planning strategy and execution as part of a cross-functional team with Operations, Sales, Manufacturing and Customer Service
- Monitor key raw material markets to determine pricing trends
- Assist Finance with product costing as required
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s/College degree with minimum 6 years of relevant experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of Purchasing / Supply Chain concepts and principles
- PMAC, CSCP designation an asset
- Strong analytical and negotiating skills
- Education in chemistry and/or chemical industry (manufacturing environment) considered an important asset
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and MRP / ERP systems (Strong Excel skills an asset)
- Proficient in math and analytical skills
- Able to build collaborative relationships and work as part of a team
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Perform complex tasks typically following established process
- Confident and self-directed with a commitment to meet deadlines, take initiative and solve problems consistently
