ONTARIO CHAPTER MUSIC DIRECTOR POSITION - MILTON CONCERT BAND 2019

The Milton Concert Band is looking for an experienced and dedicated Music Director. The role includes leading the band at rehearsals every Thursday evening from 7:30 to 10:00 pm and conducting performances several times a year. The music season runs from September to the end of July. The music director is also responsible for making decisions on music repertoire, musical instruction and further enhancing the efficacy of the band. There are about 40 band members of varying ages and musical abilities. The band is now in its 13th year and has become an integral part of the community performing two or three ticketed concerts (First Ontario Arts Centre, Milton) each year and free summer concerts in Milton’s Victoria Park in July.

We offer:

  1. Rehearsal space on one floor (Milton Baptist Church)
  2. Time off at Christmas, March break and the month of August

Preferred Music Director/Conductor Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Experience conducting community bands or similar musical groups
  2. Demonstrated ability in working with adults to improve their musical skills
  3. Able to challenge and work with musicians with a range of musical abilities
  4. Comfortable running rehearsals, sectionals and selecting appropriate repertoire
  5. Creative with the approach to program planning
  6. Able to rehearse and plan for several concerts per year
  7. Able to address tuning/playing and other issues with Concert Band Instrumentation
  8. Demonstrated leadership skills
  9. Able to advance the quality of the band’s performances
