Reporting to the Executive Director, Indigenous Trust with a dotted line to the Vice President, Indigenous Markets, the Associate Relationship Manager (ARM), Indigenous Trust provides support for relationship management and administration oversight for the Indigenous Trusts. This involves partnering with a specialized team of professionals within Trust, Commercial Banking and Wealth Management dedicated to working with Indigenous clients. Of key importance to this role is your role in assisting with the management of client relationships and participation in certain procedures and checklists that ensure thorough client file management and that reflect and address the unique needs of Indigenous clients and characteristics of Indigenous Trusts. To this end, the Associate Relationship Manager will assist the Relationship Managers (RM) and the Trust officers who oversee the management of Indigenous files and related work done by Trust personnel. Primary duties of the Associate Relationship Manager will be to liaise directly with Indigenous Trust clients and the Relationship Managers to ensure the effective management and administration of the Trust and to build trusted relationships with Indigenous Leaderships, Communities, Trustees, Service Providers, and key stakeholders.
How You’ll Succeed- Accountability for the management of client relationships, acting with and supporting the RM as the primary client contact.
- Engage with Indigenous clients regarding the delivery of Trust programs, funding, reporting, communication, and training.
- Liaise with key wealth partners and stakeholders (both internally and externally) to develop and implement tailored Trust solutions, services, and strategies that are reflective of Indigenous communities priorities as part of RM team.
- Ensures the Trust is administered in compliance with the Trust Deed as part of the RM and Trust team, acting as liaison for the Indigenous Community and their leadership.
- Prepares for and assist the RM with Community Trust meetings with Trustees from the community (including agenda preparation, minutes, and follow up).
- Adhering to all CIBC Trust Policies & Procedures.
- Preparation and communication of reporting to the leadership and community members.
- Attending Trustee meetings and other Community meetings with the RM.
- Provides ongoing education and training for Indigenous community members, as applicable on Trust matters and other financial education.
- Partnering effectively with external experts such as Investment Consultants, Investment Managers, tax specialists, and Auditors who service the Indigenous Trust and who provide guidance and oversight of the Indigenous Trust strategy and day to day management and oversight.
- Partnering effectively with internal experts from the Investment Management Department, Tax Department, and other areas within CIBC to provide support and administration on client investment, tax and other issues impacting the trusts.
- Assists in developing standards in Trust administration, and vetting new policies and procedures.
- Provide support and encouragement to employee commitment to the organization, to the team, and to their job by:
- Setting appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals;
- Building team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training;
- Assisting the Trust Officers to manage performance of support team by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities;
- Ensuring compliance with policies, standards, guidelines and controls by applying the policies and controls fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Demonstrates a commitment to developing innovative solutions that are community led.
- Demonstrates a willingness to learn from Indigenous communities on their journey to using their Trust as a vehicle for sustainable prosperity for seven generations.
- Understanding of accounting, financial planning, budgeting and investing sufficient to administer a range of complex Trust Accounts and assets.
- Writing skills sufficient to prepare correspondence containing detailed descriptions, explanations and specialized Trust terminology.
