Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, Strategic Procurement will be responsible for managing and motivating a team to ensure that the faculty/admin units are receiving a high level of support for their procurement, payment, and sourcing needs. The position will determine ways to continuously improve partnership agreements and proactively develop countermeasures to mitigate issues. The position will provide strategic leadership in developing partnerships with strategic suppliers to UBC, and managing the relationships. The position will also lead, manage and drive the development and implementation of strategic initiatives across functional Supply Management areas to improve processes and enhance service delivery.

Organizational Status
The Associate Director, Strategic Procurement reports to the Director, Supply Management and Financial Operations and will be responsible for leading a high performing team across UBC. The role will liaise with managers and Directors across UBC, and will work closely with the Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Services teams to ensure no overlap of activities and that the procurement function is seen as a trusted business partner. The Associate Director is expected to building strong working relationships with the Finance Directors in faculties/admin units and other key stakeholders across the University community.

Work Performed
Management of Procurement Partners
- Directs the Procurement Partners for faculty/admin units by providing them with strategic leadership and guidance, keeping them motivated and engaged
- Sets the strategic vision and goals for the Procurement Partner team, identifying priorities, and provides feedback, coaching, training, performance management and evaluation, and career development
- Provides guidance and support to Procurement Partners for difficult or sensitive issues with the Faculties/Admin units
- Acts as the first point of escalation on issues where the Procurement Partner cannot solve/address and collaboratively works with the Finance directors to develop a plan and resolve the issue
- Establishes KPIs for the Procurement Partner team and regularly reviews progress against metrics; leads the Procurement Partners to develop and implement improvement plans
- Ensures a high level of customer service and Faculty/Department engagement is provided by the Procurement Partners

Strategic Procurement Projects
- Provides strategic leadership on continuous process improvement and implements it with/through Procurement Partners
- Leads the identification and development of process improvements to enhance service delivery by identifying and pursuing opportunities to improve and streamline processes
- Leads cross-functional teams to develop, implement, and maintain (with focus on continuous improvement) new processes such as Supplier Management, Contract Management, Value Tracking, Market Sounding, etc.
- Leads projects ensuring that implementation plans and recommendations are rolled out successfully and impacted individuals are well-informed and trained on any new processes or procedures
- Leads the identification and development of process improvements to enhance service delivery by identifying and pursuing opportunities
- Leads Centre of Excellence (all procurement professionals across UBC) to enhance Procurement Practices and Standards at UBC
- Leads Procurement Partner Community of Practice to ensure knowledge sharing, integration with other roles/functions, development of new practices/tools, and sharing of knowledge
- Uses change management best practices and techniques to ensure adoption of any identified procurement initiatives across campus are success
