How you'll make an impact

As a Senior Payroll Specialist reporting to the Director, Defined Benefit Pension Administration, you will be an integral member of a dynamic, fast-paced, and growing team processing monthly annuity payments and related payroll and reporting activities for thousands of retirees. Thriving in a busy environment and with keen attention to detail, the successful candidate will be a key team member helping to manage a complex payroll process with multiple payroll cycles while ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations. p>

  • Efficiently manage and process monthly payroll for thousands of domestic and international payees
  • Prepare and file tax documents and reports with the CRA
  • Administer and process payroll garnishments and benefit deductions accurately
  • Maintain and update payroll records, including new payees
  • Process tax forms
  • Maintain compliance with federal and provincial tax regulations and internal policies. Ensure that payroll processes align with industry best practices.
  • Reporting and reconciliation
  • Participate in annual tax slip preparation, year-end reporting and reconciliation
  • Serve as a key point of contact, providing expert advice on payroll and benefits matters
  • Investigate and resolve any payroll discrepancies, and answer inquiries from payees
  • Assist with audits, system testing, process documentation, and continuous improvement of payroll systems and processes
  • Maintain accurate documentation of payroll procedures, and ensure that all payroll activities are well-documented and auditable
  • Liaise with external vendors
  • Suggest and implement process enhancements
  • Train and mentor staff
  • Perform additional duties as required

About you

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in payroll processing, preferably within a corporate or consulting environment.
  • Proficiency in payroll software, with specific expertise in Worklinks or Dayforce, as well as Microsoft Excel and other relevant tools.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll laws and tax regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex payroll concepts clearly.
  • Fluency in English and French is an asset.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of payroll processing.
  • Experience in managing or participating in payroll and benefits projects or implementations.
