In support of the efficient operation of the Emergency Department, the Ward Clerk facilitates the flow of patient care efficiently and safely through accurate and timely completion of assigned duties. The Ward Clerk is required to work with all members of the Health Care Team in a collaborative fashion. The primary purpose of this position is to provide clerical support, perform reception responsibilities including interacting with the public to answer questions to provide excellent patient experience, organizing and maintaining patient charts, electronic and paper information filing systems; performing patient administration functions including scheduling and coordinating appointments, and performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.

Required:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a health-related setting
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office word processing and spreadsheet programs
  • Ability to utilize Meditech computer and systems
  • Demonstrated appreciation and respect for protocol, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Completion of medical terminology course
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize the workload and multi-task
  • Ability to work efficiently independently and in a teamwork environment
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history

Assets:

  • Bilingual - English and French
  • Experience transcribing physicians’ orders
  • Ward Clerk Certificate or Nursing Unit Clerk Certificate

COMPENSATION

  • Hourly rate of pay $27.li>

HOURS OF WORK

Permanent Casual. Mainly call in and vacation relief, shifts include days, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays. Required to provide availability for a minimum of six (6) shifts per month. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the SEIU collective agreement.
