Reporting Relationships: This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer or Chief Operating Officer (TBC).

Position Term: This is a full-time/hybrid position in either Montreal or Toronto.

Position Mandate: Reporting to a member of the C-Suite, the Director will lead all national brand strategy and communication efforts and is responsible for all aspects of strategic communications related to furthering Weizmann Canada’s mission, national profile and strategic goals, associated marketing, and public relations initiatives and communications with Weizmann Canada’s supporters.

The Director will have at least one direct report and two colleagues in Communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Understanding of the mission of the Weizmann Institute of Science and ability to tell the story including the funding priorities.
  2. Collaborate with the team at the Weizmann Institute in Israel and internationally on communication and brand strategy initiatives.
  3. Develop and implement a strategic, national brand strategy and communications plan for Weizmann Canada.
  4. Increase awareness of the Weizmann Institute of Science across Canada.
  5. Write and/or edit stories for both traditional and digital channels to increase awareness, promote science literacy, drive engagement and increase donations.
  6. Write and/or edit presentations, meeting materials, and event collateral materials.

Job Requirements:

  1. Curiosity, passion and a lifelong learner.
  2. University degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or relevant field or a combination of education and experience.
  3. French conversation abilities are required, and French written skills will be considered an asset.
  4. Significant experience (7+ years) in brand strategy, communications, and/or public relations, including some in the not-for-profit environment.
  5. Knowledge of Canadian news media publications will be considered an asset.
  6. Experience creating campaigns and messaging for social media platforms.
  7. Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of strategic marketing and communication plans, campaigns, projects and initiatives.
  8. Excellent writer and communicator.
  9. Experience as a mentor and leader.
  10. Creative and innovative mind coupled with a highly effective communication style and persuasive abilities.
  11. Experience in budget development and management, media (paid and earned), direct mail, experiential and digital marketing (paid and social).
  12. Able to establish and maintain productive relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  13. A proven track record in brand management and an ability to develop key messaging for the organization.
  14. A proactive individual with strong relationship building skills, the ability to work autonomously and to lead by example.
  15. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, plan, organize and prioritize work.
  16. Enthusiasm for the mission of Weizmann Canada and the Weizmann Institute of Science.
