Provides strategic direction, leadership, and oversight for the Private Banking Sales and Credit Structuring teams in a defined Region in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
The Regional Vice President, Private Banking is responsible for the achievement of defined goals for the region through the profitable delivery of superior client service and high-quality solutions to the Bank’s high value clients, including owners/executive of large commercial/corporate banking customers and individuals with significant investment management business with the Bank.
SWM Private Banking is a credit forward business focusing on customized borrowing solutions using a wide array of personal assets as loan collateral, including investment portfolios, insurance policies, multiple types of real estate and other personal holdings.
Providing direction and support to direct reports for resolution of complex client issues in a timely manner.
Broadening and deepening client relationships by bringing together the expertise and resources of Scotia Wealth Management to deliver multi-disciplinary solutions for Private Banking clients.
Developing and maintaining an external COI network for external business referrals.
Lead the Regional sales/service management strategy to support the overall Private Banking strategy and the achievement of the business objectives:
Lead an integrated Banking and Credit Structuring team in all aspects of business planning, regional strategy and execution.
Oversee workload management and allocation and prioritizes Credit Structuring support around highest value business opportunities.
Actively managing performance of direct reports against sales goals/business plans and pipeline.
Providing effective and timely training and performance management.
Managing compensation decisions and sales conflicts.
Managing the overall quality and timeliness of client service in compliance with corporate policies and procedures, the operation document(s), legislation, and court precedent
Maintaining a high degree of working knowledge of products and strategies in order to effectively support Private Banking professionals.
Maintain a highly visible market profile within the defined market area with both internal and external contacts:
Build and maintain internal relationships with key players/contacts including Investment Management, Commercial Banking, Retail Banking, Global Banking & Markets, Global Risk Management, Compliance, Legal, strategic referral relationships, market strategy contacts, wealth functional support e.g., Financial Planning, Insurance Consultants, Business and Family Advisory, Wealth Management Consultants, Scotiatrust, MD Private Trust. 
Gluskin Sheff, and Centers of Influence (COIs) such as insurance advisors and major accounting & legal firms.
Be an active talent scout: build relationships with internal and external talent to ensure a strong pipeline of future talent across both Relationship Management and Credit Structuring teams.
Represent Private Banking various industry and regulatory functions and affairs at the local, provincial and regional level.

Lead the portfolio management and risk mitigation strategy for the Region:
Identifying and managing problem accounts early to minimize potential losses.
Providing direction and support for unit audits and ensuring timely responses to any audit findings and sustainment of corrective activities.
Maintaining a high degree of working knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements in all jurisdictions within assigned region.
Ensuring region complies with all regulatory and compliance requirements including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing, FCAC, Know Your Customer, MFDA, CDIC, Occupational Health & Safety.
Ensuring strict adherence to Bank security procedures, including assigned authorities and limits.
Reporting unusual or suspicious transactions in accordance with policies and escalated to Chief Compliance Officer, Private Banking as appropriate.
Escalating fraudulent activities, unusual occurrences, issues/deficiencies/trends to the Managing Director Private Banking and/or Private Banking Head Office as applicable.

Managing the regional profit plan (e.g., revenue planning, expenditures, etc.)
Monitoring non-interest expenses against planned budgets.
Supporting client experience issues and the formal complaints process – re-word to illustrate complexity, discretionary management around decisions impacting the P&L of the business.
Maintaining a succession plan including input into the Bank’s Leadership Resource Planning.

Lead and manage a direct-drive Relationship Management team of high-performing individuals.
Foster the collaboration of the Banking, Credit Solutions and Service teams, to ensure the delivery the highest standard of client service, including efficient transaction execution in accordance with high-net-worth client expectations.
Direct day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits.
Communicate the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. 
Create an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk. 
Build a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; and managing succession and development planning for the team. Managing staffing requirements and departmental workloads. 
PFP designation preferred (ICB Certificate of Achievement – Advanced Personal Finance in Quebec) or Bank recognized equivalent.
~8 to 10 years of sales and operational management experience dealing with high-net-worth clients, including transactional support, conventional and customized lending.
~ Strong knowledge of full Scotia Wealth Management offering, including the services of Scotiatrust, Private Investment Council, MD Management, Jarislowsky Fraser and Scotia McLeod businesses and knowledge of the Bank’s International Wealth offering.
~ Working knowledge of tax, estate and financial planning and investment products and services.
~ Strong sales management and leadership skills to ensure the highest service standards and appropriate resources are made available to the Bank’s highest value clients.
~ Ability to work collaboratively with other stakeholders for the benefit of the Bank’s clients.
~ Strong interpersonal, verbal communication and negotiation skills and professionalism are essential to effectively leading sales team and managing sophisticated clients, prospects and COIs
~ Ability to relate comfortably with affluent and influential clients and referral sources in both a business and social context.
~ Strong change management skills and ability to adopt technology and reporting platform changes to support operational improvements, sales management process improvements and general management improvements.
