Job InformationThis position is located in the Inuvik Regional Hospital (IRH), which is a 51 bed, accredited facility serving the town of Inuvik and 12 outlying communities serviced by the NTHSSA Beaufort Delta and Sahtu regions. The NTHSSA provides and supports the delivery of health care services to adults and children on an inpatient, outpatient and outreach basis in order to enhance healthy communities and well-being through excellence, accountability and respect for regional diversity.
The Beaufort-Delta Region Child Development Team (BDR-CDT) provides services to eligible children in the NWT. Patients of the BDR-CDT are referred by physicians, community health nurses, schools, community agencies or other health care professionals. The BDR-CDT works with children from birth to 16 years of age who have been affected by physical illness or injury, congenital or developmental delays, mental illness and/or psychosocial challenges. The BDR-CDT works in partnership with communities in the Beaufort-Delta and Sahtu Regions of the NWT with a community care focus to improve the quality of life of children with special needs.
Reporting directly to the Regional Manager Rehabilitation, the incumbent leads the child development team in the implementation of service and case management, incorporating best practice, consultative feedback from stakeholders, and service navigation throughout the Northwest Territories.
The BDR-CDT Coordinator is a subject matter expert with a broad knowledge base in the following areas:
- Childhood Development
- Common Developmental Disabilities including Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome
- GNWT Childhood and Disability Initiatives/Funding Programs
- Supports and Services for individuals with Disabilities
- Integrated service delivery models
This position works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary group including BDR-CDT members (Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Audiologist), Pediatricians, FASD Coordinator, Social Work, Regional Rehabilitation teams, in addition to early childhood/education professionals, and other community service providers to ensure the provision of a holistic service to children.

This level of knowledge is typically acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a rehabilitation discipline and 3 years clinical experience in Pediatric Rehabilitation. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
