We are currently seeking an Intermediate Tailings Engineer to join our team. This is your opportunity to work and grow your career with world-class engineers, scientists, and technologists in a multidisciplinary organization. The successful job applicant will be part of a dynamic engineering team and will undertake technical activities related to geotechnical work in the mining sector, including planning and participating in geotechnical site investigation/laboratory testing programs and results in interpretation, geotechnical analysis, detail design, technical support during construction, reporting, and communications. Project work may include: t ailing embankment design and stability analyses, liner design, deposition design, production of storage facility layouts, storage volume and rate of rise calculations, heap leach pads, and mine waste rock dumps.

The salary range for this position is $92 to $105 per annum. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business. 

Some of the responsibilities you may have:

  • Intimately understand and be able to work effectively in the field of geotechnical engineering
  • Direct fieldwork programs associated with geotechnical site investigation
  • Interpret in-situ data from geotechnical site investigations and analyze data from laboratory testing to determine type, classification and geotechnical engineering characteristics of soils
  • Utilize the above information or information provided by others, perform geotechnical analysis and designs of, or make recommendations for, project components including excavations, dams, foundations, fluid or mine waste impoundments
  • Develop or lead the development of clear and concise letters or reports to present the project work to clients or others
  • Develop drawings and technical specifications
  • Review project information including the scope of work, procedures and requirements, diagrams and drawings, specifications, and other client-produced documents, to determine the approach and work to be undertaken, budgeted, scheduled, and implemented (this may require working with a single engineering or scientific discipline or multiple disciplines)
  • Develop working relationships with the client representatives and staff

Qualifications that would make you a great candidate:

  • Minimum of an Undergraduate degree in Geotechnical, Geological or Civil Engineering
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a geotechnical or tailings engineering capacity is preferred
  • Some experience establishing and maintaining client relationships including business development
  • Previous experience in site reconnaissance and investigations to assess site suitability for development of buildings, subdivisions, small dams, slope stability assessments
  • Several years of experience writing internal and external reports and proposals
  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment
  • Previous experience using AutoCAD, GeoStudio 2007 Products and MS Office is essential
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), teamwork and mentorship skills are essential
  • Good time management skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and the ability to contribute to the project by being a team player
  • Travel may be required in this position, and candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments, in the Interior of British Columbia and also within western Canada
  • Must be physically capable of performing the manual field duties required
  • Must be or eligible to register as a professional engineer in British Columbia, be legally entitled to work in Canada, and possess a valid British Columbia Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent)
