$55,800 per annum (35 hours per week), pro-rated to $33,480 per annum based on 60% FTE (21 hours per week) About the Organization The National Facility for Seismological Investigations ( NFSI ; ), in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Dalhousie University, operates a major pool of Broadband Ocean Bottom Seismometers ( BOBS ). These instruments are used for collaborative national and international studies of the Earth structure and earthquakes across Canadian offshore regions and worldwide. Job Summary Reporting to the NFSI Manager, the Office Administrator will be responsible for providing administrative support for facility operations. This will include outreach communications through the NFSI website and social media, document preparation, organizing national and international shipping, procurement of equipment and consumable supplies, travel arrangements, and office support for field operations. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage outreach communications through website and social media.
  • Support document preparation and report writing.
  • Ship equipment for national and international field operations.
  • Procure equipment and consumables.
  • Handle account keeping.
  • Handle travel arrangements.
  • Provide support for field operation teams.
Note Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus. Local, National or International travel and offshore work may be required occasionally (1-2 times per year). Required Qualifications
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc.).
  • Ability to be proactive and organized.
  • Possess strong attention to detail, good problem-solving skills as well as a willingness to learn and adapt to situational needs.
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with multiple competing priorities and deadlines with flexibility, excellent prioritization and time management skills.
Assets
  • Undergraduate degree or higher.
  • Experience with outreach communications and/or support for field operations.
  • Experience working as an administrator in a University environment.
