Guests of Kiu Japanese restaurant will enjoy a versatile dining experience that strives to be memorable.

Kiu Japanese Restaurant is accepting applications for sushi chefs with minimum 1 year experience in the field.

The position is available for part-time employment.

We are looking for a passionate and energetic sushi chef to join our sushi department. The sushi chef's responsibilities will include but are not limited to preparing traditional Japanese sushi rice, maki and oshi, assisting the head chef in preparing our various kinds of fish and seafood in accordance with Kiu Japanese Restaurant standard

The sushi chef will maintain a sense of professionalism, cleanliness, efficiency and a strive for excellence.

To succeed in Kiu Japanese Restaurant, we ask for the desire to learn and innovate while collaborating with other members of the kitchen team. The ability to work under pressure and maintain Kiu Japanese Restaurant service standards is essential to providing the experience we strive for at Kiu.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Experience cutting, slicing and filleting different types of fish and seafood according to established guidelines on quality, portion size, presentation and food safety.
  • Inspecting the quality of fruits, vegetables, and daily proteins used to prepare sushi dishes and assist the executive to ensure produce and product standards are met.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment for your team and preventing food contamination.
  • Assist the head chef in the routine inventory of food supplies and other products.
  • Communication with wait staff to ensure that special requests and food allergy considerations are met.
  • Creating a variety of maki sushi with quality, skill and speed.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 1+ years of experience in an upscale sushi restaurant.
  • Experience specifically in making makis and rolls.
  • A passion for Japanese cuisine and the art of dining.
  • Self-motivated and extreme drive to learn and collaborate.
  • Food Handler Certificate (Preferred)
  • Open availability and willing to accept guidance and constructive criticism.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Desire to meet the expectation of customers.

Education/Experience:

  • Culinary school or other forms of formal Japanese culinary training (Preferred)
  • High School Diploma
