Vancouver, Canada Vancouver International Full time

YVR is a place of connection, bringing together people, places and cargo while ensuring a safe and efficient experience for everyone. Maintenance Services plays an integral part in the continued success and future vision of the Vancouver Airport Authority.

Position overview

As Manager, Fleet Maintenance, you will oversee all facets of maintenance operations for light and heavy fleet, from passenger vehicles to fire trucks and runway snow clearing equipment that supports a dynamic 24 hour per day operation. You will be responsible for leading maintenance staff and contractors to ensure operational requirements are met, while considering the full impact that your decisions will have on customers, stakeholders, employee wellbeing, labour relationships and access to resources.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute the Crew Management Strategy – act as the technical operational management representative and coordinate all fleet maintenance work.
  • Hire, direct, coach, train and provide guidance and leadership to employees, promoting a respectful environment in the workplace; resolve staff issues, including disciplinary action, as required in the maintenance and management of all light and heavy fleet assets.
  • Develop a multi-year fleet replacement plan and optimize the deployment of fleet assets through a data driven approach to support financial, climate (net zero) and operational objectives.
  • Provide input and review of the development of Standard Operating Procedures, performance and service level KPI’s, technical instructions and reference documentation, and technical review and guidance for operations and maintenance procedures, compliance records and risk assessments.
  • Identify and recommend resolutions to issues through investigations, Root Cause Analysis and specialized studies
  • Liaise with a wide range of technical and trades resources to drive continuous improvement efforts and explore emerging technologies.
  • Develop partnerships with service providers and suppliers.
  • Continuously monitor, analyze and implement improvements to service delivery of fleet through a customer focused approach.
  • Ensure digital integration with YVR’s computer maintenance management system.
  • Ensure and promote strong YVR aligned safety culture across the team.
  • Participate in or oversee special projects and other assignments supporting asset maintenance and operations at YVR.

Key qualifications include:

  • Five years’ experience working in an airport and/or commercial fleet environment, supplemented by a trade certification and/or a bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Science or Engineering; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Experience conducting and facilitating field reviews and inspections for work quality reviews, as well as asset lifecycle assessments and repairs
  • Demonstrated skills and expertise in incident and operations management
  • Well-honed decision-making skills

We are looking for a passionate individual to lead the planning, maintenance and management of our light and heavy fleet. We have some of the most state of the art heavy fleet available in an airport environment including snow clearing equipment and aircraft rescue fire fighting trucks, and you would be responsible for leading a team to ensure their performance in a dynamic, 24 hour per day operations.
