About the Role

The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fleet/Project Engineer to join our Engineering Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from vehicle and equipment replacement to design and modification of existing fleet assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and manage the vehicle and equipment replacement program, ensuring alignment with the City's operational and financial goals.
  • Provide engineering expertise and guidance to City departments, determining specifications and ordering new vehicles and equipment.
  • Design and implement safe modifications to existing City fleet, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assess annual maintenance costs and determine optimum financial lifecycles for City equipment.
  • Develop and implement emission reduction strategies, assessing fleet emission profiles and providing recommendations to Council and departments.
  • Prepare reports, business cases, and presentations to support fleet management decisions.
  • Manage projects, establishing, tracking, and providing updates on timelines, budgets, and risks.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia.
  • Experience with capital project management, especially using the PMP framework.
  • Demonstration of creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving engineering problems.
  • Experience in developing equipment strategies and failure analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management.
  • A current and valid Class 5 BC driver's license with a clean driving abstract is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of engineering design, technical, and practical experience relative to the truck/fleet and or the equipment industry.
  • Ability to deal effectively with multiple tasks, prioritizing, setting, and meeting competing deadlines.
  • Excellent report writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong leadership, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills in creating and working in a team environment.
  • Well-developed critical thinking, with an ability to apply logic and challenge assumptions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and working knowledge of SAP.
