We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our Fleet Engineering & Asset Management (FEAM) team as a Fleet / Project Engineer. This role is pivotal in delivering project oversight, fleet management, and engineering expertise related to the procurement, modification, and outfitting of all City vehicles and equipment. The position requires collaboration with various operational groups, including fleet maintenance and supply chain management, to address equipment needs based on operational requirements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning and execution of the vehicle and equipment replacement program.
  • Provide engineering guidance to City departments for vehicle and equipment replacements, including determining specifications and placing orders.
  • Design outfitting plans for new equipment and offer mechanical design insights and failure analysis.
  • Implement safe modifications to the existing City fleet.
  • Evaluate annual maintenance costs to optimize the financial lifecycle of City assets.
  • Analyze fleet emissions and recommend strategies for reduction.
  • Assess fleet utilization across the City and provide strategic recommendations to management.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, business cases, and presentations.
  • Develop budget plans and evaluate capital and operational costs for fleet management.
  • Manage projects by setting, monitoring, and reporting on timelines, budgets, and potential risks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia.
  • Consideration will be given to Engineer-In-Training candidates with relevant experience.
  • Experience in capital project management, particularly within the PMP framework.
  • Proven ability to creatively and effectively address engineering challenges.
  • Experience in developing equipment strategies and conducting failure analyses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with all management levels.
  • A valid Class 5 BC driver's license with a clean driving record is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with engineering design principles and practical experience in the truck/fleet or equipment sectors is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Exceptional report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and conflict resolution capabilities in a team environment.
  • Critical thinking skills with a logical approach to problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with SAP.

The City of Vancouver offers a Flexible Work Program, allowing eligible staff to work remotely 1 to 4 days a week from locations within a daily commutable distance from their City worksite.
