Job Title: Fleet Maintenance Mechanic

UBC is seeking a skilled Fleet Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our Fleet Management Department, you will be responsible for performing skilled mechanical repair and maintenance work on campus vehicles and equipment.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will have a trade certification to a journeyperson level as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Automotive Mechanic, with computerized engine management training and a valid BC driver's license. A minimum of five years of related experience is required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform skilled mechanical repair and maintenance work on campus vehicles and equipment
  • Inspect and maintain vehicles to meet Provincial Vehicle Inspection Program requirements
  • Conduct fault finding, rebuilds parts for reuse, and modify engine parts for specific purposes
  • Lubricate trucks, tractors, and equipment
  • Maintain gardening equipment, such as power lawnmowers, fertilizers, spreaders, chainsaws, etc.
  • Fabricating, fitting, and modifying vehicles utilizing sheet metal facilities
  • Train and monitor the work of one or more apprentices
  • Instruct drivers and operators in proper vehicle and equipment use and maintenance
  • Maintain mechanical tools and equipment used for mechanical repairs
  • Maintain an inventory of repair parts, order parts, and repair/maintenance estimates
  • Respond to Trouble Calls and Emergency Call-Outs, some of which may involve mobile repairs
Requirements:
  • Trade certification to a journeyperson level as a Heavy Duty Mechanic or Automotive Mechanic
  • Computerized engine management training
  • Valid BC driver's license
  • Minimum five years of related experience
