Job Summary

The Training & Community Services Coordinator is accountable to the Manager of Training & Community Services for the effective and professional coordination of all training and community service programs in the Centre. The Coordinator works closely with the Coordinators’ Team in the Centre and the Training & Community Services Division in the Provincial Head Office.

Job Duties

  1. Training Coordination
    • First point of contact and professional resource for business, industry, government, and the general public concerning the training standards and protocols for all training programs offered in the Centre.
    • Responsible for complete in-house services for all Instructors and Partner-Providers in the Centre’s area from class requests, equipment and supplies, classroom utilization and professional development opportunities.
    • Develops and coordinates the Centre’s annual training schedule and works closely with the Management Team to ensure accuracy of information in the Provincial Course Calendar and the SJA website.
    • Coordinates and ensures accuracy of all Instructor records at the Centre and ensures all Provincial Head Office policies and procedures are adhered to in the delivery of those services.
    • Ensures all classrooms are materialized with the appropriate resources for each course and class.
    • Seeks guidance and instruction in the area of program standards, training protocols, business plans, business principles, and instructor training and certification from the Manager of Training and the Vice-President of Training & Community Services in the Provincial Head Office.
  2. Community Services Coordination
    • Coordinates all community service activities in the Centre – including volunteer recruitment, training, administration, and exit administration.
    • Conducts interviews for volunteer applicants and determines in-take, orientation, and training schedules.
    • Coordinates the appropriate training and development of volunteers when required and ensures that members maintain standards of training, dress, and deportment when representing St John Ambulance on public duties.
    • Completes all post-event activities as required for each program.
    • Coordinates community relations events, special events, and open houses as needed and encourages volunteer involvement to reflect the support element of St John Ambulance in the communities.
  3. General
    • Works cooperatively as part of the Centre’s coordinating team in managing cross-team issues, planning special events, identifying potential award recipients, administration procedures, facilities, and any other Centre-specific matters that arise.
    • Reports any matters of discipline concerning Instructors/Partner-Providers or Volunteers to the Manager of Training & Community Services in the Provincial Head Office and provides recommended solutions.
    • Produces status reports for Provincial Head Office that assist in long-range planning and managing the Training & Community Service programs and the volunteers and instructor/partner-provider network throughout the Province.
    • May participate on committees representing the interest of St John Ambulance, as approved by the Manager of Training & Community Services.
    • Accepts project work and assumes other duties assigned by the Vice-President of Training & Community Services and/or the Manager of Training & Community Services.

Job Requirements

  • Experience in a customer service and administration environment.
  • Skills in scheduling and coordination of people and assets.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of the local area volunteer sector and the health, safety, and business environment.
  • Effective organizational and communication skills.
  • Clear criminal record check.
  • Valid class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract.
  • Post-secondary education and/or experience in the education/training or volunteer sector, an asset.

Work Conditions

  • Working in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Interaction with customers/clients, students, instructors, volunteers, and the public at large including situations of a highly sensitive nature.
  • Extended periods of sitting.
  • Attendance and participation in training/orientation.
  • Some repetitive physical activity (lifting, bending, twisting, and moving equipment).
  • Able to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
  • Operation of desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Operation of SJA Community Service vehicles and other equipment.
  • Carry a work phone for emergencies and ease of access for urgent matters.
