The Plant Manager will oversee daily plant operations, ensuring high efficiency, safety, and compliance with industry standards. You will lead a team, implement structured processes, and tackle challenges to enhance production and operational effectiveness. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in industrial operations management, ideally within the food production sector. You should possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of safety and compliance, and a demonstrated ability to drive efficiency and handle complex challenges. Location: North of London, Ontario

Accountabilities

1. Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Develop and execute business strategies and tactics to drive growth, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Plan, organize, and run daily operations to meet production, cost, and quality goals.
  • Implement and monitor performance metrics (KPIs) to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices, technological advancements, and trends to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Benchmark practices and participate in networking events to enhance corporate image.

2. Production Management

  • Optimize workforce utilization and manage resources effectively to maximize productivity.
  • Maintain high production output and ensure meat quality meets customer requirements.
  • Track and minimize unnecessary costs and waste through effective cost management.
  • Manage the annual operating budget and forecast future production needs.
  • Handle daily operational challenges to maintain efficiency in production, cost, quality, and safety.
  • Focus on continuous improvement by updating systems, processes, and performance indicators.

3. Asset and Inventory Management

  • Manage and optimize the life cycle of plant assets, including upgrades, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Plan and implement preventive and reactive maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Create and maintain an Assets Register to track asset performance and forecast budgetary needs.
  • Oversee inventory control, ensuring timely receipt of animals and preparation of orders.
  • Implement effective supply chain systems and manage vendor relationships to ensure consistent support.

4. Staff Management and Leadership Development

  • Build and manage a strong leadership team focused on quality, continuous improvement, and empowerment.
  • Coach and mentor managers to develop competencies and foster world-class practices.
  • Ensure the highest level of staff training and development to support business plans.
  • Address employee issues, manage performance reviews, and recommend staffing levels.
  • Implement a communication process to keep the team informed and engaged.
  • Recognize and appreciate individual contributions through formal appreciation processes.

5. Food Safety and Occupational Health and Safety

  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain high standards in meat quality.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, documentation, and reports related to food safety.
  • Conduct facility audits and manage third-party audits to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain a safe workplace by providing ongoing training, updating safety systems, and monitoring health risks.
  • Keep management informed with periodical updates on health and safety implementation.

6. Financial Management

  • Maintain a positive cash flow by managing financial aspects effectively.
  • Review and update pricing to achieve healthy profit margins while maintaining competitiveness.
  • Analyze financial reports and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in food science, business, engineering, or operations management.
  • Minimum seven years of industrial-operations management experience, preferably in food production.
  • Understanding of Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with HACCP, GMP, and SSOP programs.
  • Awareness of industry trends and best practices in meat processing.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles (an asset).
  • Experience in using ERP solutions.
  • Proven ability to plan, commit to, and achieve strategic and long-term business goals.
