Role Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Strategic Policy and Planning, the Director, Priority Coordination, Governance and Planning will:

Monitor, coordinate, facilitate and advise on (1) ministry work that is destined for Cabinet and Cabinet committees; and (2) work that is otherwise destined for Executive Council consideration and approval to ensure a strategic perspective, appropriate timing, and alignment with ministry and government direction and priorities. As the Director, you must stay informed and maintain ongoing awareness of changing organizational priorities, timing, routing and sequencing and proactively shift strategic focus and activities to address present and future organizational priorities. Serve as a liaison with the Assistant Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister’s Office, Minister’s Office, the Policy Coordination Office, Cabinet Coordination Office and other Executive Council bodies regarding work moving forward for Cabinet decision making, on the routing and scheduling of Cabinet Reports and Ministerial Orders as well as on agency recruitment, appointment/reappointment and other governance matters requiring direction. Be accountable for leading the ministry’s corporate planning and accountability functions including business planning, operational planning, annual reporting, enterprise risk management and legislative services. Work effectively with internal stakeholders at different levels across the department and across ministry to gather, share and coordinate information. Model behavior consistent with the values of the Alberta public service. Engage others in strategic thinking and challenge them to take action in spite of barriers. 

All aspects of the position require a high degree of political acumen, confidentiality, good judgement, agility, creative problem solving, and systems thinking, as well as building and sustaining effective and collaborative relationships across ministry divisions, other departments and with the Minister's Office, Deputy Minister's Office and Executive Council.
