Role Responsibilities


As the Bridge Manager, you will report to the Regional Director, Peace Region and will be responsible for the overall day to day management of all bridge functions. The job is to develop and deliver effective and affordable regional bridge programs that provide a bridge infrastructure for the safe movement of people and goods. You will also manage the environmental requirements of projects within the region. As well, the job is to provide effective and quality service by ensuring that bridges are properly constructed, inspected and maintained according to current engineering standards as well as practices. This includes allocation of resources, planning and scheduling to ensure that program delivery within allotted budgets and time frames is met.


Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Ensuring that the Provincial Highway bridge infrastructure is safe for the movement of people and goods. This is delivered via effective construction, inspection and maintenance programs that meet current standards as well as practices. Ensuring that the Local Road bridge infrastructure is safe for the movement of people and goods. This is delivered via programs providing rural municipalities with funding and appropriate technical assistance to ensure that bridges are constructed, inspected and maintained to current standards as well as practices. Being accountable for the delivery of the bridge programs through consultants and contractors by engaging best-value consultants as well as managing them in an effective manner. Programs, policies and guidelines are kept current to ensure that private industry provides quality service in an effective as well as safe manner. Maximizing the economic life of all bridge structures within the region by continuously reviewing operations to ensure that needs are met in the most effective and efficient manner. Managing the compliance of regional project delivery personnel, consultants and contractors with environmental regulations, policy and standards.  Providing environmental support to the regional staff and coordinating with local regulatory agencies on project related issues. Includes managing the regional consultant for contaminated site remediation and the regional consultant for watercourse course crossings, responsible for project delivery and maintaining the inventory of regional environmental liabilities.  Providing leadership and advice on environmental matters while ensuring safe, efficient and timely delivery of the projects by consultants and contractors Managing the selection, assessment and evaluation of environmental consultants as well as reviewing all environmental work.

Sound written and verbal communication skills The ability to reason out and deal with complex issues requiring resolution Mature judgement and independent decision-making on bridge designs, work methods and procedures within the overall bridge program Strong management, supervisory, leadership and motivational skills with the ability to initiate and/or work within a team framework
