Personal Support Worker

VON is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Personal Support Worker to provide personal support and homemaking services to clients and families in their homes.

About the Role
  • Provide personal support and homemaking services to clients and families in their homes, including light cleaning, meal preparation, and personal care.
  • Assess clients' needs and develop personalized care plans to promote independence and well-being.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive care and support.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless care and support.
  • Perform daily tasks, such as cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation, to maintain a safe and healthy living environment.
  • Provide respite care and support to clients and families as needed.
  • Support clients' families by providing childcare and other forms of support to allow for family relief.
  • Organize daily activities and prioritize tasks to ensure efficient and effective care and support.
  • Complete daily reports and other forms as required to maintain accurate records and ensure effective care and support.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • CCA Certification in Nova Scotia required.
  • Must have a certificate in Home Support Worker (Level I, II, III), Personal Support Worker program or Health Care Aide.
  • Must have a current Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate, if applicable to the work being performed.
  • Some household management experience and experience working with elderly or ill individuals or children required.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team or independently as required.
  • Good assessment and problem-solving skills.
  • Awareness of community resources and ability to connect clients with relevant services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to strict confidentiality protocols.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
