We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the following positions:

  • Head, Marine Support Services:

Supports the Marine Services Office and manages, directs, and provides expert advice with respect to resources and processes for facilitating the program area.

Leads the coordination, development, and implementation of functions such as service agreement management, program evaluation, emergency management, incident management, and operational management liaison for the program area with municipalities and agencies.

Head, Marine Engineering Services: Provides strategic oversight for 24/7 marine operations, managing vessel maintenance and a team of engineering staff to ensure safety and operational standards. Plans, manages, and oversees the repairs, maintenance and associated scheduling required for a fleet of vessels and shore-based infrastructure for government-owned assets. Provides advice and expertise to both internal and external ferry operations for the Marine Services Office assets.

  • Head, Marine Operational Services:

Leads year-round, 24/7, ferry operations to deliver exceptional customer service, manage service commitments and direct public relations and stakeholder engagement.

Provides direct management, leadership, advice, and expertise for ferry operations in a dynamic and evolving environment.

Oversees the coordination, development, and implementation of best practices in such functions as marine regulatory compliance, incident management and stakeholder relations.

The Transportation User Services Branch provides operational policy and provincial service delivery for public-facing services including Concession Agreements, Remote Airports, Marine Services, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Traveller Communications.

Users also receive a consistent experience while accessing provincial network services.

  • Leading and managing projects, including audits, compliance initiatives, and policy updates.

  • Overseeing hiring, performance management, training, and compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including Transport Canada, Transportation Safety Board, Canadian Ferry Association, municipalities, and agencies.
  • Ensuring staff credentials and training requirements meet the needs of the operation, and develop training plans on marine policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing the establishment of protocols and management for situations and events involving emergency services, and/or inclement weather.
  • Overseeing public relations, develop plans for service interruptions and emergency situations, and manage the processes for public complaints and passenger claims.
  • Assessing unplanned service interruptions and/or emergency situations, and applying risk management strategies to determine the correct course of action, such as including the implementation of emergency response plans, continuity of operations plans, and/or other plans requiring reacting quickly and effectively.
  • Contributing to strategic planning, performance management, and issue resolution.
  • Overseeing the development, implementation, and updating of the Safety Management System (SMS).
Head, Marine Support Services:

  • Leading acquisitions and contract management for marine projects, overseeing procurements, and administrative guidance. Establishes and maintains Vendors of Records, budgets, payments, and asset management.
Head, Marine Engineering Services:

  • Managing vessel repairs, maintenance schedules, and emergency response plans, providing expertise and direction to municipal ferry operations to properly maintain MTO vessel and shore-based assets.
Head, Marine Operational Services:

  • Develops and implements a formal process for responding to complaints and issues raised by the public or stakeholders about quality of service. Reviewing claims from passengers regarding property damage or Injury.

  • You have strong knowledge of maritime regulations, principles, and safety practices, including the Canada Shipping Act, Transport Canada regulations and related legislation to ensure the safe and lawful transportation of passengers and goods.
  • You have experience in managing emergency planning, safety management, training, and environmental issues.
  • You are skilled at identifying key issues, assessing risks, conducting key analyses, and ensuring successful delivery of multiple, and concurrent, complex projects.
  • You are proficient in procurement policies and procedures, including ITQ'S, RFQ's, and RFP's.
  • You possess expertise in financial management, budgeting, and capital project oversight.
Communication and Relationship Management Skills:

  • You are skilled in leading complex and politically sensitive consultations and negotiations with internal and external stakeholders.
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing briefing materials and delivering presentations.
  • You can manage relationships with public, contractors, stakeholders, and partners in a contentious and sensitive environment with tact and diplomacy.
