Deckhand (Seasonal) - Ferry Operations

Are you passionate about working on the water and providing excellent customer service? We are seeking a Deckhand to join our team at the Ministry of Transportation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of a ferry vessel transporting vehicles and passengers.
- Assist with the loading/unloading of vehicles.
- Secure and cast-off the vessel.
- Respond to public inquiries.
- Ensure vessel and shore facilities are maintained.
Requirements:
- Valid class 'G' Driver's Licence or equivalent.
- Medical certificate of fitness.
- Marine Emergency Duties Certificate to the level required by Transport Canada.
- Meet the requirements of the Physical Demands Analysis for this position.
- Ability to work 12 hour shifts days/nights and weekends.
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of seamanship principles and safe practices and procedures relevant to Marine Operations.
- Knowledge of routine emergency procedures relevant to Marine Operations.
- Knowledge about the use and maintenance of lifesaving and firefighting equipment aboard vessels.
- Ability to conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of terminal facilities, docks and vessels.
Customer Service and Communication Skills:
- Proven communication and interpersonal skills to exchange information with passengers and crew.
- Ability to provide quality customer service to the public through courteous communication.
Judgement and Decision-Making Abilities:
- Ability to identify and resolve potentially dangerous emergency or unsafe situation and/or conditions.
- Awareness of safe working practices and procedures.
- Ability to stop vehicles in parking spaces such that passengers can exit safely.
- Ability to plan and organize daily routine and non-routine activities in a timely manner.
