Join our team as a Park Ranger and become the face of the District's Parks Department As a Park Ranger, you will be responsible for guiding visitors, ensuring facilities are pristine, and fostering a harmonious park experience. You will also be part of a marine patrol unit in Deep Cove, enforcing safety and environmental concerns for all visitors.

Picture yourself sharing the local knowledge on trails, facilities, and the rich natural history of our parks. You will be the guardian who monitors usage, educates on regulations, and patrols to deter inappropriate behaviour. Duties also include interacting, coordinating, and supporting work to engage with the homeless population, showcasing diplomacy and tact. Knowledge of wharf, dog control, and environmental bylaws is essential.

Your commitment to enforcement, completion of Bylaw Investigative Courses, and adaptability to varying weather conditions make you a standout candidate. The work involves considerable public relations contact and requires that you have exceptional customer service skills in order to respond and problem solve with tact and diplomacy. You will exercise independent judgment and perform the duties within policy and regulation limits. You will also prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports as required.

The successful applicant must also possess:

Sound knowledge of assigned park areas and facilities and hazard found therein.Some knowledge of natural history and ecology of assigned area.Some knowledge of first aid practices and procedures.Ability and alertness in detecting and handling unusual situations.Ability to prepare routine records and to perform routine repair and maintenance tasks related to the park operations.
Qualifications
Graduation from the 12th grade supplemented by courses in natural history and/or ecology and approved courses in basic first aid and some related experience, preferably working with youth; Red Cross Instructors Certificate II is preferable; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. You must hold a valid BC Driver's Licence, a survival first aid certificate, a CPR Certificate and be able to swim, walk long distances and work under varying weather conditions. Holding a SVOP – Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Certificate, and having sound experience in enforcement work, with completion of Bylaw Investigative Courses Level 1 and 2, from the Justice Institute of BC, would be considered an asset. In addition, experience with or knowledge of natural resource management, regulatory enforcement, conflict resolution, and/or wilderness rescue would be considered an asset. Lastly, a criminal record check will be required upon hire.

Details
The salary for these auxiliary positions is $32.91 per hour (2024 rates), plus 12% in lieu of all benefits. Hours of work for these positions may be any day of the week and may vary between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm.
