Job Title: Educational Assistant

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is a leading educational institution in Eastern Ontario, offering a wide range of programs to promote learning excellence and meet the individual needs of students, parents, and the community.

About the Role:
  • 100% Term (10 month work year)
  • $27.45 to $30.59 per hour

As an Educational Assistant, you will be an integral member of the school team, providing support to students with exceptional needs within the school. You will work under the direction of the Principal and collaborate with teaching and other professional staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for students.

Responsibilities:
  • Support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and students with developmental disabilities
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implementing special programs
  • Support deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, physiotherapy exercises, and stretches
  • Modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities, and speech/language issues
  • Perform outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties
Candidate Profile:
  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school-aged special needs children
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
  • Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Support Indigenous students by building positive relationships, affirming identities and cultures, and providing academic, social, emotional, and spiritual support
  • Prepare and modify learning materials, programs, and environments to meet individual needs
  • Act as a mentor and advisor, and play an essential role as an advocate for each learner
  • Work with a range of stakeholders to support learning and engagement of Indigenous students
