We are seeking creative, dynamic, and committed educational leaders to join our team as Educational Assistants. As an integral member of the school team, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs within the school.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and students with developmental disabilities
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implementing special programs
  • Support deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, physiotherapy exercises, and stretches
  • Modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities and speech/language issues
  • Perform outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties

Requirements:

  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school-aged special needs children
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
  • Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training

Desirable Skills and Abilities:

  • Child and Youth Care Worker Diploma or equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience
  • Experience working with ASD and ABS
  • Experience working with high school-aged students identified with Learning Difficulties
  • Knowledge of social skills programming, vocational training, and work experience for Autism students
  • Experience working with assistive technology
  • Behaviour Management Systems and ASIST training
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of varied programming strategies and accommodations for intermediate/secondary students
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Able to effectively liaise with teaching staff to support student and student learning
  • Comfortable working in a 1:1 setting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
