Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an integral member of our school community, you will provide essential support to students with exceptional needs, working collaboratively with teaching and other professional staff to ensure a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and other exceptional needs
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implement special programs to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Support students with learning disabilities, speech/language issues, and other challenges
  • Assist with outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and pool duties as required
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to develop and implement individualized education plans
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment
Requirements
  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience working with school-aged special needs children
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
  • Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and provide excellent customer service
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Assistive technology skills, including experience with SEA Computers and iPad training
  • Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software
  • Experience working with students with complex needs and challenging behaviors
