Reporting organizationally to the FIFA26 CAN Executive Director, Government Engagement and Stakeholder Relations, the Senior Manager, Human Rights & Indigenous Engagement will work in close collaboration and support the FIFA26 teams including the Sustainability & Human Rights (SHR) team, the FIFA Social Responsibility & Education Division, and other key stakeholders in delivering the FIFA World Cup 26TM Sustainability & Human Rights Strategy in the Host Country of Canada. With a primary focus on Canada, this role will require key collaboration and partnership with stakeholders and government partners and have primary accountability on all matters related to human rights and Indigenous engagement in Canada.
THE POSITION The main responsibilities and oversights of the Senior Manager, Human Rights & Indigenous Engagement for the FIFA World Cup 26TM include:
Indigenous Engagement:
  • Development and implementation of the FIFA26 CAN Indigenous Engagement and Partnership Plan.
  • Engaging with Indigenous peoples/communities in Canada that have been identified as key stakeholders.
  • Recognition and respect for Indigenous Rights and Cultures.
  • Inclusion and representation to ensure that indigenous peoples are actively included in planning.
  • Throughout the entire process, consultation and collaboration with Indigenous leaders, organizations, and communities.
  • Liaise with Host City and Stadium Focal Points on sustainability and human rights matters.
Human Rights:
  • Advise on any human rights regulatory development in Canada that could impact the implementation of the Indigenous Engagement and Partnership Plan and the FIFA World Cup 26 SHR Strategy.
  • Liaise with the Director of Sustainability and Human Rights (in the USA) to facilitate the implementation of the FIFA World Cup 26 SHR Strategy.
  • In collaboration with stakeholders, assist in planning and coordinating meetings, workshops, and site visits.
  • Support the delivery of the tournament's sustainability and human rights reporting throughout the project.

Education & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Indigenous traditional or experiential learning are a plus .
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements:
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in developing and implementing indigenous engagement plans; management of complex projects with Indigenous and underrepresented communities in Canada as key stakeholders.
  • Experience in addressing and integrating Indigenous communities ́ issues concretely in national and international projects.
  • Proven track-record in fostering, building and maintaining relationships with groups of experts and/or stakeholders related to Human Rights and Indigenous issues in Canada.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples Act and/or Truth and Reconciliation
  • Awareness of wider human rights issues in Canada relevant to the organization of a large sporting event.
  • Experience in creating project concepts and coordinating their implementation.
  • Experience working with government entities.
  • Experience leading and/or managing working groups/committees.
  • Strong stakeholder communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred additional experience:
  • International work experience, especially with Mexico and the United States and with working as part of a multi-cultural team.
  • Experience working in the field of sports and events and, in particular, mega sporting events.
  • Experience working in the fields of human rights in the Host Countries, especially in the two Canadian Host Cities, Vancouver, BC and Toronto, ON..
Languages:
  • Fluent in English. French and aboriginal languages proficiency are a plus.

Technology:
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools.
