Underwriter I or II, Commercial Lines

About the role
- Participate in broker visits, insurance industry functions, and marketing events to support broker relationship development
- Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company
- Make recommendations to improve department processes and increase efficiency
- Analyze requests for quotes and recommend innovative solutions
- Focus on building relationships while underwriting and rating policies
- Provide technical advice, recommendations, and mentoring to team members
- Assess, evaluate, and negotiate on moderate to complex risks
What you bring to the table
- Post-secondary education or relevant experience
- Minimum 1-3 years underwriting experience
- Strong sales and customer service skills
- Completion of or progress toward a CIP designation is an asset
- Expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions
- Able to handle complex risks
- Awareness of local community conditions and insurance issues
- Strong negotiating skills and business savvy
- Initiative and ability to work under pressure
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools
